OLED fans have been waiting more than a decade for this tablet

An OLED tablet with a compact form factor, it felt like an eternity since fans of small devices had seen one. After the Galaxy Tab S2 from 2015, Samsung decided to take a different approach with its successors, using OLED displays only in larger tablets. From then on, compact Samsung tablets were almost exclusively positioned as entry-level devices in the Galaxy Tab A series. Other manufacturers, such as Motorola, soon followed.
After more than a decade, Oppo has now re-entered the market with the Pad Mini. At 8.8 inches, the Oppo tablet is slightly larger than the 8-inch Galaxy Tab S2, but the Pad Mini boasts an outstanding screen-to-body ratio of nearly 90 percent for a tablet and is consequently very efficiently designed. In the gaming sector, there’s also the Redmagic Astra from 2025 with an OLED display as a possible alternative, but it is not only significantly heavier but also noticeably larger.
A small Android tablet with high-end performance and excellent battery life
The Oppo Pad Mini impresses in our review, primarily thanks to its high-quality metal unibody casing, which feels sturdy despite the tablet’s compact dimensions and fits comfortably in the hand. The display bezels, which are very narrow for a tablet, give the Pad Mini a sleek look and set new standards with a screen-to-body ratio of nearly 90 percent. By comparison, an iPad Mini (2024) only achieves about 77 percent in this regard.
Another major strength, aside from the OLED panel, is the outstanding battery life. With 27.5 hours in our real-world battery test, the Pad Mini also sets new standards in the compact class.
If you’re looking for a new tablet and prefer something a bit more compact, you should definitely check out our review of the Oppo Pad Mini. This compact OLED tablet starts at around $730 from our loan partner, Trading Shenzhen.
