Frostpunk 2 turns up the heat with Breach of Trust launch

11 Bit Studios has released the latest expansion for Frostpunk 2, which is titled "Breach of Trust." Arriving June 23, 2026, for PC and console platforms, this paid content drops players into a survival scenario completely different from the standard frozen wastelands of the base game. 

Instead of simply battling the endless sub-zero winter, city leaders must now contend with an active, destabilized volcano threatening to wipe out a brand-new settlement. It serves as the game's second major post-launch add-on, following the sandbox-focused Fractured Utopias update that launched late last year.

Frostpunk 2 Breach of Trust details the fall of New Edinburgh

The new narrative campaign centers on New Edinburgh, a desperate city constructed near a volcanic site that quickly became unstable after citizens recklessly extracted geothermal energy to power the main Generator. 

With the previous Captain deposed and the ground actively splitting apart, players step in as the First Citizen to restore order. Your main job is keeping the central city running while keeping a close eye on Aurora, an independent colony sitting out on a nearby frozen lake. When toxic volcanic ash eventually chokes out the main settlement, this freezing outpost becomes your only escape route.

Volcanoes and shifting politics shake up the classic gameplay loop

11 Bit Studios packed this DLC with brutal new systems that will trip up even experienced strategy fans. The active volcano triggers chaotic environmental hazards, such as sudden ground tremors and a specific Volcano Night cycle. Political stability is also much harder to maintain because the game introduces a recurring Vote of Trust that acts as a direct, tangible check on your approval rating among the populace. Furthermore, players must carefully handle diplomatic relations with the independent colony, choosing between peaceful trade agreements, aggressive resource extortion, or total military conquest.

To support these new layers of city management, the DLC packages two scenario maps, five fresh buildings and hubs to reinforce your infrastructure, and an array of new laws to pass. Players will also encounter five unique factions and communities, each with distinct backgrounds and conflicting ideological goals that will inevitably clash during the volcanic disaster. 

Frost Punk 2 Breach of Trust is available on digital storefronts as a standalone download or as part of the official Deluxe Edition bundle, giving players an excellent reason to dive back into the ice.
