Apple said to be already working on iPhone Ultra 2, but iPhone Air 3 might be cancelled

Apple 's iPhone Ultra, often referred to in rumors as the iPhone Fold, is expected to be officially unveiled in September, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max. According to the latest information from the usually very well-informed leaker Digital Chat Station, Apple has already begun developing the second-generation iPhone Ultra. The timeline makes sense, as development of the iPhone Ultra is likely complete, and the company is reportedly currently preparing for mass production of the device.
Current plans reportedly call for the iPhone Ultra 2 to use the same foldable display as the first-generation iPhone Ultra, so the format and aspect ratio are unlikely to change next year. The iPhone Ultra is expected to feature a very wide foldable display similar to the screen of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide. When folded, the smartphone is said to offer a 5.49-inch secondary display that is even slightly wider than the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s display but significantly less tall. When unfolded, a main display measuring approximately 7.7 inches is reportedly revealed.
While the future of the iPhone Ultra appears secure for now, the fate of the iPhone Air ($758 on Amazon) is reportedly hanging in the balance. Apple is set to launch a second-generation iPhone Air in the spring of 2027, but the manufacturer reportedly hasn’t yet decided whether this will be the last model in the series. Whether an iPhone Air 3 will be released is said to depend primarily on the sales of the iPhone Air 2.
