Apple iPhone 18 Pro: Noticeable camera upgrade all but confirmed

Same design but significantly thicker: The camera module on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max has already been in a direct comparison of a non-functional dummy model with an iPhone 17 Pro Max. Now Setsuna Digital, a leaker widely regarded as very reliable, indicated on Weibo, that in 2026, at least the main camera on both iPhone 18 Pro models will most likely receive a massive upgrade.
According to supply chain indications, this will be physically evident in the iPhone 18 Pro aluminum alloy back panel that is about 2 mm thicker. Specific details regarding the reasons for the thicker iPhone 18 Pro are still unconfirmed officially, but the clearly visible difference compared to its predecessors is likely due to the addition of a variable aperture which will offer greater flexibility when taking photos and videos.
A 48-megapixel sensor upgrade cannot be ruled out either at the moment, however, it remains unclear whether the main camera’s 1/1.28-inch sensor will be replaced with a larger one. In the comments to his post, the leaker "confirms" that a thicker camera module is the primary reason for the thicker body in Apples next iPhone that will be due in September 2026. A slightly bigger battery is also expected in the iPhone 18 Pro, which, in combination with the 2nm A20 Apple, should also bring longer battery life.
