Xiaomi 18 Pro tipped for global launch with new LOFIC camera

There's a time gap of almost six months between the Chinese Xiaomi 17 and the global model, and Xiaomi offers hardly any alternatives between its compact entry-level Leica camera flagship and the global Xiaomi 17 Ultra aside from the new Xiaomi 17T series. Far from ideal, yet this has been standard practice for years, though this may change in 2026, as we speculated (in German only) a few weeks ago.
Now, new indications of changes to Xiaomi’s global strategy have surfaced, this time in the form of a tweet from Kartikey Singh, who has a history of accurate predictions about the future of Xiaomi products. While you have to read between the lines to interpret his reference to "X" as a European launch for the Xiaomi 18 Pro generation, an international and, above all, timely launch of the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max would make sense, as it would give Xiaomi a unique selling point unmatched elsewhere.
Improved secondary display and new LOFIC camera
Interestingly, the secondary display integrated into the camera module has not yet been copied by any competitor and is unlikely to hurt sales figures outside of China, especially since Xiaomi is apparently planning a brighter and larger display with thinner bezels for the Xiaomi 17 Pro successors, as leakers have hinted in the past. The Leica cameras will apparently feature new innovations as well. According to Kartikey Singh, there will be no changes to the sensor manufacturer – Omnivision for the regular Xiaomi 18 and SmartSens for the two Pro models – but a new LOFIC generation is expected to further improve dynamic range. Moreover, a new ultra-wide-angle camera without the outdated ISOCELL JN5 sensor also seems to be on the horizon for the entire Xiaomi 18 series.
