Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra: Four advantages over the Galaxy S26 Ultra thanks to the new triple-camera design
More than six months before the expected launch of the Galaxy S27 series in January or February 2027, there already seems to be a consensus on what new features the Galaxy S27 Ultra and the new Galaxy S27 Pro will bring. The latter is likely to be a slightly scaled-down Ultra model without an S Pen. The next Ultra model apparently loses the 3x telephoto lens, which has been frequently criticized in the past and seems outdated with its tiny 10 MP sensor.
Instead of replacing it with a more modern camera, Samsung apparently decided to completely do away with the 3x telephoto lens in the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The 200 megapixel main camera and the selfie camera are also supposed to get a sensor upgrade. Recent hints from a blogger in South Korea now point to the expected improvements resulting from this new triple-camera design, which is once again described as a "horizontal camera bar."
The four advantages of the new Galaxy S27 Ultra design
- According to industry sources, the 5x periscope telephoto camera delivers better and "more realistic" photo quality at 3x zoom than the dedicated 3x camera did previously. A note from us: This sounds illogical at first, and we cannot rule out a translation error here, even though we consulted three different translation tools. It is possible, for example, that Samsung will use fusion technology using the main camera and the 5x telephoto at 3x zoom in the future. We also cannot rule out that the 5x periscope mentioned will instead deliver 3.7–4x zoom, similar to the Vivo X300 Pro or the iPhone 17 Pro (available refurbished here at Amazon)
- The battery size is about to increase. The exact capacity of the Galaxy S27 Ultra battery has not been revealed yet, but the 5,000 mAh battey size —unchanged for years—is apparently a thing of the past.
- Thanks to the new camera bar design, the Galaxy S27 Ultra will finally support full Qi2 magnetic charging capabilities, similar to those found in Apple (MagSafe) or Google (PixelSnap) phones.
- The final advantage of the horizontal camera bar will be a "more stable body design" which no longer wobbles on a table.
