Galaxy S27 (Plus) fall further behind the Pro and Ultra

While the next-generation Samsung foldables are just a couple of days away, the Galaxy S27 series is still a few months out. The leaks, however, keep coming in, and the latest information brings some unfortunate news for the base Galaxy S27 and the Galaxy S27 Plus selfie cameras.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra will be upgraded to a 16 MP selfie camera. Samsung has used the same 12 MP sensor on its Galaxy S flagship series since the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The upgrade is suspected to be a square sensor similar to Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro. At the time, it was unclear if the base Galaxy S27 and the Galaxy S27 Plus would also get the same treatment. Turns out, they won’t.

The information comes from credible leaker Lanzuk over on the Naver blog. The leaker claims that while the Pro model has been confirmed to feature the 16 MP selfie camera, the base and Plus variants will not. They will likely continue to use the age-old 12 MP sensor, but whether Samsung has upgraded any of the other aspects of the selfie camera remains unclear.

We’ve already seen reports of the base Galaxy S27 getting cheaper China-made OLED panels. This move is said to have saved about $5 per panel for Samsung. On the other hand, the Galaxy S27 series, including the base model, could be the first to ship with UFS 5.0 storage chips.

As it stands now, the Galaxy S27 Pro is looking to be the most interesting of the lineup. Of course, the Galaxy S27 Ultra will be the king among them, but a lot of its features have trickled down to the Pro model, making it possibly better value than the Ultra.
