Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra said to receive camera upgrade that's 4 years overdue

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra was still equipped with a 40-megapixel f/2.2 selfie camera with a 1/2,82-inch sensor, but the Galaxy S23 Ultra received a downgrade in early 2023 to a 12 MP f/2.2 camera with a smaller 1/3.2-inch sensor. This camera was carried over almost unchanged all the way to the current Galaxy S26 Ultra ($1,199 on Amazon), Samsung has only made minor adjustments to the lens.
According to GalaxyClub Samsung is finally incorporating a new front-facing camera in the Galaxy S27 Pro and the Galaxy S27 Ultra. This camera is said to feature a brand-new 16-megapixel sensor, though no details regarding the sensor size or the lens are known yet. GalaxyClub speculates that Samsung might use a square sensor, similar to the one in the Apple iPhone 17 Pro, allowing photos and videos to be captured in both portrait and landscape orientations without having to rotate the smartphone; however, this has not yet been confirmed. It’s also unclear whether the more affordable Galaxy S27 and the Galaxy S27+ will also receive an upgrade to this 16 MP front camera.
The Samsung Galaxy S27 series is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2027, between January and March. According to rumors, all four models in the series will feature the Privacy Display, which was previously exclusive to the Galaxy S26 Ultra, allowing sensitive content on the screen to be protected from prying eyes. The 10 MP telephoto camera with 3x zoom is reportedly being omitted from the Galaxy S27 Ultra and replaced with digital zoom.
