Deal | Pixii rangefinder cameras receive limited time discount
Anyone looking to buy a rangefinder camera currently has only two options – the Leica M or the Pixii. Since the Leica M11-P costs €9,190, used Leica M cameras are the only affordable option for many rangefinder enthusiasts – aside from the Pixii. That’s because the French startup offers two rangefinder cameras, the Pixii Plus and the Pixii Max, that are significantly cheaper than the Leica M11.
Thanks to a summer promotion, the cameras are currently available at even lower prices. In Pixii’s online store, the Pixii Plus with a 26-megapixel APS-C sensor is currently available for €2,199 ($2,515) instead of €2,749 ($3,144), that’s a discount of €550, or 20 percent. The model with 128 GB of storage (instead of 32 GB) currently costs €2,499 ($2,858) instead of €2,999 ($3,430). Since the Pixii Plus does not have an SD card slot, the storage cannot be expanded after purchase. 32 GB is enough for 840 RAW images, while 128 GB is enough for 3,350 images.
As part of this promotion, the Pixii Max, featuring a 24-megapixel full-frame sensor, is available either with 32 GB of storage for €3,499 ($4,000) or with 128 GB of storage for €3,749 ($4,288). It’s important to note that Pixii lists all prices excluding VAT, which is rather unusual for European retailers. Pixii does ship internationally. Anyone buying a Pixii should also be aware of its limitations.
The cameras have neither a display nor autofocus, and they also lack image stabilization and a mechanical shutter, meaning the camera cannot be used with a flash. Those who can live with these limitations will find that both the Pixii Plus and the Pixii Max are rangefinder cameras with a Leica M mount, a small OLED display for showing menus and exposure parameters, and a black-and-white RAW mode.
