Despite all the upgrades, Galaxy S27 Ultra will likely miss out in two key areas

Most of the past leaks and rumors about the Galaxy S27 Ultra have been about the various upgrades it is going to get. Two key areas where the phone is expected to be more conservative have now been tipped by a credible leaker.

For a few months now, the Galaxy S27 Ultra and the Galaxy S27 Pro have been rumored to get UFS 5.0 storage, along with several other upgrades. Unfortunately, if the latest information from leaker Lanzuk is accurate, the Galaxy S27 Ultra will likely not get the UFS 5.0 upgrade, nor will it get LPDDR6 memory. If that's true for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, then the Galaxy S27 Pro will skip the upgrades as well.

The leaker mentions that only a few manufactures are expected to bring LPDDR6 and UFS 5.0 upgrades to flagship smartphones next year, and Samsung will not be one of them, at least not with the Galaxy S27 lineup. He adds that only small quantities of these phones will be produced as part of limited edition runs.

At this point, it is unclear if all the Galaxy S27 models, i.e., ones with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and others with the Exynos 2700, will skip the UFS 5.0 and LPDDR6 upgrade. For reference, UFS 5.0 storage promises sequential read speeds of up to 10.8GB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 9.5GB/s, a significant boost compared to the 4.3GB/s and 4.1GB/s speeds of UFS 4.1. As for LPDDR6, for now, the modules are rated at 10.7 Gbps, but Samsung has already achieved these speeds with its LPDDR5x modules.
