Galaxy Z Fold9 Ultra tipped to inherit Galaxy S27 Ultra camera setup with 200MP main camera and 5x periscope zoom

A well-regarded contributor to the Korean tech community meeco.kr suggests that Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold9 Ultra could adopt a camera array nearly identical to that of the upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra, marking the first time the foldable Ultra line would fully match its slab-phone counterpart's rear camera setup.

The current Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra pairs a 200MP HP2 wide sensor with a 10MP 3x telephoto lens and a 50MP ultrawide sensor, the latter being a new Sony unit shared with the base Galaxy Z Fold8. According to a post from user 흡혈귀왕 (Vampire King), a known contributor to the Korean enthusiast scene, the Fold9 Ultra may move to a new 200MP HP6 wide sensor paired with a 50MP IMX854 5x periscope telephoto lens, representing a significant jump in the zoom camera's resolution and reach.

The projected Fold9 Ultra specs track closely with Samsung's own reported plans for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. We have reported that the S27 Ultra is moving to a new 200MP primary sensor, widely believed to be the ISOCELL HP6, while dropping its dedicated 3x telephoto lens in favor of a 5x periscope zoom with 10x in-sensor crop capability. If the projection holds, the Fold9 Ultra would essentially inherit this same wide-and-telephoto configuration, closing a long-standing gap between Samsung's foldable and standard Ultra camera hardware.

The poster also draws a generational comparison between the base models: the current Galaxy Z Fold8 uses a 50MP 1.0μm GNG wide sensor, limiting lossless zoom to around 2x. Had Samsung instead used a 200MP HP2 wide sensor on the Fold8, as it did on the Fold8 Ultra, the poster argues that the follow-up Fold9 could have paired a 200MP HP6 wide sensor with in-sensor cropping to reach up to 3x zoom. Since the base Fold8 retained the lower-resolution GNG sensor, it is now clearly positioned in a lower tier than the Fold8 Ultra. By extension, the base Fold9 likely will not match the zoom flexibility of the Ultra models either.

Samsung has not commented on unannounced products, and the Fold9 series likely remains well over a year away. While the meeco.kr source carries some credibility within Korean leak circles and the projected specs align with independently reported S27 Ultra plans, no supply-chain leaker or Samsung-adjacent source has directly confirmed the Fold9 Ultra's camera hardware. Exact sensor placements and megapixel counts should be treated as subject to change.
