Xiaomi launches affordable solar smart camera with 4G connectivity

Previously available through crowdfunding platform Youpin, Xiaomi has now formally launched a new outdoor smart camera in China, the Smart Solar Camera 4 Pro. It bundles with a solar panel, eliminating the need to use a dedicated power source for most setups. This solar-powered camera doesn't require any external network either.

It comes with dual 4G built-in SIM cards, which are likely linked with Chinese carriers, and per Xiaomi, this dual-card setup ensures stable connectivity and seamless switching in low network scenarios.

Getting back to the solar power feature, in situations when the panel is not getting enough light, the built-in battery comes into play. It has a rated capacity of 9,900mAh, and Xiaomi says that it can power the smart camera for over 8 days after a full charge.

The dual-camera configuration is another highlight of the Xiaomi Smart Solar Camera 4 Pro. Both are 5MP sensors, and among the two, the top one can swivel 180° horizontally and 20° vertically, while the lower one can do 355° horizontally and 95° vertically.

These 5MP cameras are also said to be capable of capturing "3K" high-definition videos. Xiaomi adds that the security camera can capture detail-rich images in low-light conditions with the f/1.6 aperture lens.

Speaking of which, the solar camera also has full-color night vision, and Xiaomi says that with dual infrared LEDs, it can deliver clear captures for up to a 10-meter range.

Other highlights include a microSD card slot (64GB Sandisk Ultra curr. $23.52 on Amazon), IP66 dust and water-resistant rating, and AI-powered security features. Xiaomi has launched the Smart Solar Camera 4 Pro 4G Dual-Camera Edition in China with a price tag of CNY 649, about $96. It's unclear when this solar security camera will go global, but the company tends to bring most of its products to the international market.
