Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra goes official with a host of long-awaited upgrades

Rumours about Samsung launching an Ultra-branded foldable have been around forever. After years of waiting, they have finally come true. Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. It is arguably one of Samsung's most ambitious foldables to date with a slimmer design, a new titanium-based display structure, upgraded cameras, larger displays, and enhanced Galaxy AI capabilities.

Foldable smartphone makers have been racing to make their offerings as thin as possible, and Samsung clearly doesn't want to get left behind. Samsung has reduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra's unfolded thickness to just 4.1 mm, making it the thinnest Galaxy Z Fold the company has produced. At 214 g, the Fold 8 Ultra is also among Samsung's lightest book-style foldables to date. The device measures 143.2 x 158.4 x 4.1 mm when unfolded and 72.8 x 158.4 x 8.9 mm when folded.

To keep the whole contraption functional and sturdy, Samsung has shown off its Flex Titanium Technology, a new display architecture designed specifically for foldable OLED panels. The company says the technology combines an ultra-thin titanium alloy support layer beneath the OLED display with a titanium backing plate that provides a flatter, more stable foundation while remaining flexible enough to endure repeated folding.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra features larger displays inside and out. The main display measures 8 inches diagonally and uses a QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with an adaptive 120 Hz refresh rate, and the cover display uses the same panel in a 6.5-inch form factor with FHD+ resolution and a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate. Samsung has also applied an anti-reflective coating and claims peak brightness reaches 3,000 nits, improving readability under direct sunlight.

One of the main criticisms of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold lineup was about its underwhelming camera setup, especially when compared to its Ultra-branded Galaxy S series sibling. Samsung finally introduced meaningful camera upgrades to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, complete with a 200 MP wide camera (f/1.7) with optical-quality 2x zoom, a 50 MP ultra-wide camera (f/2.2), and a 10 MP telephoto camera (3x optical zoom, f/2.4). For selfies and video calls, both the inner and cover displays house 10 MP front-facing cameras.

Samsung claims the upgraded ProVisual Engine delivers more advanced computational photography, while Nightography Video enhances low-light video quality. The Fold 8 Ultra also supports 8K video recording and introduces Cine LUT APV codec support, allowing creators to preview cinematic colour grading directly within Pro Video mode before recording. Samsung is also expanding professional video tools with built-in LUT previews and editing options designed for content creators.

Samsung continues to expand Galaxy AI with features designed specifically for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra's larger display. The headline addition is Now Nudge, an AI-powered assistant capable of proactively surfacing contextual actions from conversations, notifications and user activity. Examples include creating calendar events directly from messages, saving shared locations, opening schedules or composing emails with a single tap. Now Nudge can also expand into Split View, allowing users to continue chatting on one side of the display while interacting with AI-generated actions on the other. Samsung also demonstrated Ambient Nudge and Notification Nudge, both of which proactively surface suggested actions without requiring users to manually invoke Galaxy AI.

Under the hood, Samsung equips the Fold 8 Ultra with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, the same SoC that powers the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Furthermore, Samsung has managed to cram in a 5,000 mAh battery that charges at 45 Watts wired (20 Watts wireless) on the Fold 8—a marked improvement over the 4,400 mAh cell found on the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The company rates the Fold 8 Ultra for up to 27 hours of video playback and says one can charge the battery up to 67% (seriously?) in 30 minutes. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will be available in three configurations:
