Galaxy A08 gets certified by the FCC, packs a bigger battery than its predecessor

The successor to the Galaxy A07 4G might soon be upon us considering the entry-level Galaxy A smartphone is roughly a month from its first anniversary. Expected to launch as the Galaxy A08 4G, the smartphone has been spotted in the FCC's database, and the documents reveal a few details.

According to the FCC documents, the Galaxy A08 4G will be available in two model variants — a single SIM version with the model number SM-A085M and a dual-SIM version with the model number SM-A085M/DS. It also states that the phone has support for dual-band WiFi and various LTE bands.

However, the most important detail is the battery capacity. The Galaxy A07 4G (available on Amazon for $99.50) has a 5,000mAh battery capacity, but based on the certification documents, the Galaxy A08 4G's battery is stated to be 5,830mAh. This is believed to be the rated capacity, which means the typical battery capacity should be 6,000mAh.

While a larger battery is good news, the charger tested with the phone supports up to 15W. This doesn't mean that the Galaxy A08 4G will support 15W fast charging, considering the Galaxy A07 4G charges at up to 25W. It is just the charger Samsung provided for the testing. Anyway, there won't be a charger in the box, so buyers just have to use a higher rated charger that can output at least 25W.

It is not clear what other upgrades the Galaxy A08 4G will bring other than a bigger battery, but one thing that won't get an upgrade is the processor. A Geekbench result revealed the phone is powered by MediaTek's Helio G99 processor, the same chip inside the Galaxy A07 4G. It also revealed that it will run Android 17 out of the box.

Just like the Galaxy A07 4G has a 5G version, the Galaxy A08 4G is expected to have a 5G variant, but that will probably arrive much later.
