Xiaomi 18 Pro vs. Xiaomi 18 Pro Max: Video shows big difference between the two Leica main cameras
In late 2026, Xiaomi fans can choose between two Leica camera flagships called the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max. Unlike the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max from the previous year, both are also expected to launch outside China, depending on the region. They can already be imported now, which may make sense given the smaller batteries and the potentially long wait time for the global models. But which model should you choose? Anyone who prefers the compact model will not think twice, but the 6.9-inch Xiaomi 18 Pro Max is not just larger, as our launch news article already explained.
Another important difference is the chipset. Only the Pro Max model gets the more powerful but also less efficient 5 GHz Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. On first glance, it seems that both Xiaomi flagships offer equivalent camera systems this year, but first impressions can be deceptive. A closer look at the relevant sections of the Chinese specifications reveals two different main camera sensors: the one in the Xiaomi 18 Pro is called Light Hunter 960, while the one in the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max is named Light Hunter 960L. The reference to “High Dynamic Range” appears for the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max only as well.
Only Light Hunter 960L offers LOFIC technology
That single letter makes a fairly significant difference in practice. The well-known Chinese smartphone reviewer behind the Xiaobai Reviews Weibo account has already tested both Xiaomi 18 Pro models on the go. The advantage of LOFIC technology is particularly evident in dark environments with bright neon lights, which are significantly less overexposed with the Light Hunter 960L sensor.
