Xiaomi 18 Fold gaming review: 120 FPS in Call of Duty, but another game is a major disappointment

Equipped with the high-end Xring O3 processor and a 120 Hz OLED display, the Xiaomi 18 Fold actually offers ideal conditions for demanding mobile games. However, our gaming tests with GameBench show that real-world performance heavily depends on the specific title.
Call of Duty Mobile delivers a particularly impressive performance. At maximum graphics settings and the highest frame rate, the foldable averages 119.6 FPS. The median sits at 120 FPS, while even the lowest one percent of measurements still reaches 110.5 FPS. GameBench awards the smartphone a stability score of 100 percent. During the roughly three-and-a-half-minute benchmark, no notable performance drops were detected.
Genshin Impact also runs mostly smoothly on the high graphics profile. We measured an average of 55.8 FPS, with a median of 60 FPS. However, the frame rate repeatedly drops to around 45 FPS, resulting in a stability score of only 74 percent. Nevertheless, the surface temperature remains at a moderate level with a maximum of 40.6 °C (105.1 °F).
PUBG Mobile, on the other hand, comes as a sobering disappointment. Regardless of whether the HD profile or the lowest "Smooth" graphics setting is selected, the frame rate cannot be set higher than 30 FPS, and higher detail levels are completely unavailable. While these 30 FPS are held almost constantly with 99 percent stability, such a strict cap is disappointing for a modern high-end chip. On top of that, the device warms up noticeably while playing.
The fact that the Xiaomi 18 Fold is fundamentally capable of handling much higher frame rates is proven above all by Call of Duty Mobile. The restrictions in PUBG Mobile therefore point to a lack of game optimization or a software-side limit rather than a shortage of computing power.
