Getting around Leonida without a car could be surprisingly easy. According to a new report, Rockstar is introducing a fully functional public transportation system in GTA 6, complete with buses and trains that follow fixed routes and timetables.

A new GTA 6 cover story in British gaming magazine Edge has given us 12 fresh screenshots, revealing some interesting details about the world beyond Vice City. Alongside new information about the map's size and explorable interiors, the report also sheds light on how players will get around Leonida. And it turns out that cars, electric scooters and boats won't be their only options – Rockstar is reportedly introducing an entire public transportation network.

An online version of the Edge article is available through sister publication GamesRadar+, although it's behind a paywall. Many of its details have already surfaced online, however, and are being discussed on Reddit.

Buses and trains are even supposed to run on time

The public transportation system will reportedly feature a network of buses and trains covering the state of Leonida. Buses are said to follow fixed routes and operate according to timetables, suggesting that Rockstar has put considerable development effort into the feature. According to reports citing Edge, development lead Phil Hooker explained that he regularly waited at bus stops during testing, checked whether buses arrived on time and then rode them around Leonida.

The bus and rail network appears to be part of Rockstar's broader effort to make GTA 6's world feel as alive as possible. It could also give players entirely new ways to spend their time in Leonida. On Reddit, many fans are already looking forward to taking leisurely rides around the state. Some would even like to get behind the wheel themselves and work as bus drivers rather than simply ride as passengers. Whether Rockstar has included such side jobs remains unknown.

It's worth noting that public transportation isn't entirely new to the GTA series. GTA 4 featured a subway network with 26 stations and eight routes. Rockstar scaled things back considerably in GTA 5, which only included a light rail system with eleven stops. A fully functional bus network, however, would be a first for the series. Just how extensive the public transportation system in GTA 6 (available for pre-order on Amazon) will actually be remains to be seen.
