Deal | RPG with plenty of freedom and 90% positive reviews now just over $6 on Steam

Although Svarog's Dream was only released in 2023, it feels like an old-school RPG and should particularly appeal to players who value exploration and meaningful decisions alongside combat. It also has a rather unusual mechanic up its sleeve. The game is currently 70% off on Steam, bringing the price down to just $6.30 instead of the usual $21. According to SteamDB, this matches its previous all-time low.
The RPG takes players to a fantasy world inspired by Slavic mythology, filled with monsters and gods. However, rather than playing as an ordinary human, players control a lost soul that can choose which human body to inhabit. This forms the basis of one of the game's core mechanics: When the current character dies, the soul returns to the underworld, where it can take possession of a new body with different characteristics. Levels, learned abilities and quest progress are retained. Only physical attributes and individual talents change.

In terms of gameplay, freedom of choice takes center stage. The open fantasy world can be explored with very few restrictions, and even seemingly minor actions can have consequences. For example, getting caught stealing can result in bounty hunters coming after you. Moral decisions, meanwhile, affect how other characters react, which events unfold and ultimately how the story ends. Combat takes place in real time, with melee weapons, bows and magic at players' disposal. There are also twelve different character classes to choose from.
Svarog's Dream doesn't have a Metascore yet, but it has been reviewed by Finger Guns, where it received a solid 8 out of 10. The review particularly praised the varied game world and strong incentive to explore, while the original reincarnation system was another highlight. However, side quests reportedly offer little of the freedom found in the open world. The game also suffers from somewhat clunky combat and cumbersome inventory management. Steam players don't seem particularly bothered by these shortcomings, though. 90% of nearly 1,000 user reviews are positive. The game is also compatible with the Steam Deck, making it well worth a look for fans of classic RPGs.
