Upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro in for impressive rear display upgrade

Xiaomi is preparing the next-generation of Chinese flagships to take on the Galaxy S26 and the upcoming iPhone 18 series.
The most recent leak surrounding the new Xiaomi 18 series suggests a September 2026 launch, positioned to go head-to-head with Apple’s iPhone 18. While the two rivals may share a suspiciously similar rear look (and name), Xiaomi is doubling down on a hardware feature Apple has yet to touch - the secondary rear display.
According to tipster Smart Pikachu, the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max will evolve the rear screen into an "AI-powered smart window." Rather than a simple notification screen, this panel could leverage AI to offer context-aware interactions, refined live translation, and advanced teleprompter tools - a great idea in a world of content creation.
The rear display aside, the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max are expected to debut the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, Qualcomm’s first 2nm chipset. A triple camera system with two 200 MP sensors is also in the testing, while the base Xiaomi 18 model might finally get a periscope zoom lens.
However, cutting-edge tech comes at a cost - especially today. Xiaomi’s CEO recently put out a social media post talking about the “outrageous” RAM price increases that affect the entire tech industry. Given RAM prices, it seems like a price hike for the Xiaomi 18 series is almost certain - the only uncertainty is the margin.
