Verdict — Straightforward Premium Business
Whereas the EliteBook Ultra G1i 14 emphasis OLED and thinness and the EliteBook X G1a 14 emphasis performance with its unique Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro CPU, the EliteBook X G1i 14 is the more down-to-Earth solution of the three that foregoes fancy OLED and HX-series processors in favor of strong fundamentals. Its Lunar Lake CPU and basic 60 Hz IPS display aren't going to impress performance hunters or content creators, but they're wrapped in a sleek metal chassis that's perfect for on-the-go office work.
Alternatives like the Dell Latitude 9440 come in heavier than our EliteBook while others like the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon G13 are lighter albeit without WWAN features.
Battery life is a notable highlight of the EliteBook X G1i 14. Since the model offers no OLED configurations unlike on most other flagship subnotebooks, runtimes can be noticeably longer by a few hours when web browsing. Be sure to configure with the larger 68 Wh battery pack to maximize this advantage.
The hardware responsible for the extended battery life is also responsible for some of the drawbacks of the system. Raw CPU performance is modest and the lack of OLED can be a bummer for multimedia applications all in the name of improving battery life. The EliteBook X G1i 14 is sufficient for word processing and light editing on-the-go while the aforementioned EliteBook Ultra G1i 14 or EliteBook X G1a 14 can cover more demanding scenarios.

HP is now shipping the EliteBook X Ultra G1i 14 starting at $2700 for the base configuration to $3300 as reviewed.
The EliteBook X G1i 14 is a higher-end business subnotebook succeeding the older EliteBook 1040 series. It should not be confused with the EliteBook Ultra G1i 14 which comes with different ports, processors, and display options alongside a slightly different chassis design.
Our test unit is a middle configuration with the Lunar Lake Core Ultra 7 268V CPU, 68 Wh battery, and 1200p 60 Hz IPS touchscreen for approximately $3300. Other SKUs start with the Core Ultra 5 238V, smaller 56 Wh battery, or a higher-resolution 1600p 120 Hz IPS touchscreen.
