If you want better battery life, you’ll want to opt for the more power-efficient display. But this is an easy laptop to recommend for all but budget-conscious consumers.

And while this is just personal preference, its keys are far too squishy. For a fantastic alternative, the MSI Summit 13 AI+ Evo A2VM is $1,599 yet is similarly excellent for business. Otherwise, the HP EliteBook X G1a 14 AI is a great machine.

The EliteBook X gets a lot right. It's beautifully built, mostly very well designed, and it's a genuinely pleasant laptop to use. For a faintly reasonable £1,500, you get a premium-feeling 14-inch laptop that can tackle most applications – and even the occasional game – without breaking a sweat. Frankly, only the battery life disappoints. However, once you start looking at the more luxurious models with OLED panels and upgraded specifications, the value for money starts to wane. As the price rises, it becomes increasingly hard to justify buying an EliteBook X over a more luxurious EliteBook Ultra. You'll want to weigh up the benefits carefully. At the right price, the EliteBook X is a good laptop – almost a great one – but the dizzying number of close relations in HP's portfolio means that it pays to shop around diligently before hitting the buy button.

The HP EliteBook G1i is intended to be a business machine, but as an Intel-based Copilot+ plus PC it has plenty of NPU power and enough of a GPU to handle most creative tasks, though it will be slower than a discrete chip.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.
In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
AMD Radeon 890M: The most powerful AMD iGPU as of mid 2024. It features 16 RDNA 3.5 architecture CUs (1024 unified shaders) running at up to 2,900 MHz. On average, the 890M finds itself very close to the GTX 1650 Laptop making it possible to play 2024 AAA games at 1080p with most settings set to Low.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Intel Arc 140V: A pretty fast integrated graphics adapter that higher-end Intel Lunar Lake family processors employ. This is a direct successor to the Arc 8; it can drive three SUHD 4320p monitors simultaneously via HDMI 2.1, eDP 1.5 and DP 2.1. With the 140V, all 2023 and 2024 games are playable at 1080p on low graphics settings.
AMD Radeon 880M: A fairly powerful RDNA 3.5 architecture iGPU that debuted in June 2024 and a direct successor to the Radeon 780M. Its 12 CUs/WGPs (768 unified shaders) run at up to 2,900 MHz. DX12 Ultimate, ray tracing, AI image generation and other modern features are all supported here, as are many popular video codecs including first and foremost AVC, HEVC, VP9 and AV1. Its gaming performance is good enough for playing 2024 games such as Once Human and The First Descendant at 1080p on low graphics settings.

AMD Strix Halo/Point (Zen 5/5c, Ryzen AI 300):
Ryzen AI 9 HX 375: A powerful Strix Point family processor that launched to little fanfare in July 2024. The Ryzen AI 9 series APU comes equipped with 12 CPU cores along with the 16 CU RDNA 3.5 Radeon 890M graphics adapter and the 55 TOPS XDNA 2 neural engine. There is no PCIe 5 support here and 8 of the CPU cores are slower than the other 4.
Ryzen AI 7 PRO 360: A relatively powerful Strix Point family processor that debuted in October 2024. The hybrid architecture APU features 8 CPU cores (a mix of Zen 5 and Zen 5c cores) running at up to 5.0 GHz, along with the Radeon 880M graphics adapter and the 50 TOPS XDNA 2 neural engine. The AMD Secure Processor (which in a nutshell is an on-package ARM co-processor) is onboard as well as are a few other higher-end features, such as AMD-Vi. Other key features include PCIe 4, USB 4 and up to LPDDR5x-8000 RAM support, including ECC RAM. The long-term TDP power target can be as high as 55 W.

It essentially matches the Core Ultra 7 165U and Core i7-1360P in multi-thread performance and it eats up to 37 W when under short-term workloads.

14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
