I opened up the EliteBook X G2i and was surprised by just how lightweight this laptop feels, especially considering the power of the processor and integrated GPU and NPU. Sure enough, the test benchmarks highlighted just how well-tuned this laptop was for everyday tasks, but it was also capable of editing video as well as supporting AI-enhanced workloads within Photoshop and with Copilot.

The HP EliteBook X G2i is an excellent execution of a Panther Lake-based business laptop, but it's a bit difficult to score in this configuration. HP has said that this specific unit I had hand-on with has a "Smart Buy" price of $2,899, but currently, it's unavailable for purchase at any price.

At a starting price of Rs 2,50,000, the HP EliteBook X G2i is an expensive laptop, but our experience shows that it offers more than just a premium design. Its lightweight build, comfortable 14-inch display, strong connectivity and powerful Core Ultra X7 performance make it well suited to professionals who spend their day moving between documents, presentations, browser tabs and video meetings. Having said that, the price limits its end user to those who specifically need a premium business laptop and its enterprise-focused features.

The HP EliteBook X G2i is a laptop that understands its role. It isn’t trying to chase trends or stand out in a market full of business professionals. And this is sort of a double-edged sword. On one hand, the laptop nails the basics and leads to a stellar performance. On the other hand, the display feels underwhelming for the price, and the design lacks the X factor that you’d expect from a machine that costs over Rs 2.5 lakh.

It is both fantastic and frustrating to have the opportunity to use a prototype before its full release and we thank HP for the opportunity. We really need a full set of benchmarks to recommend any device but we can't help but be excited for the G2i. At face value, it's gorgeous, it's super light, the keyboard is satisfying, and the OLED display is superb. Of all the lightweight notebooks we've seen at CES, this is one of the best and one to keep an eye out for later in the year.

HP’s EliteBook X G2i is very light for a 14-inch business laptop, but it still feels premium and rigid, and tough enough to hold up for on the go use. The 3K 120Hz OLED is bright and vibrant, and the port selection is impressively complete for a sub-1kg machine – even if the two Thunderbolt 4 ports sit a bit close together for my taste. Performance and battery life are excellent for this class, though the fan noise is noticeable when you push it hard. While we'll reserve final judgment until we get hands-on with a production version of the laptop, based on my time with the G2i, it's absolutely one worth putting on your shortlist for a 2026 upgrade.
