AMD 3020e vs Intel Core i5-11300H vs AMD Ryzen 7 2800H

AMD 3020e

► remove from comparison AMD 3020e

The AMD 3020e (Codename Dali) is a mobile APU that integrates two Zen cores (without SMT, therefore 2 threads) clocked at 1.2 to 2.6 GHz. The TDP is specified at 6 Watt and therefore the chip can be passively cooled. The integrated Radeon graphics card offers 3 CUs at up to 1,000 MHz (Radeon RX Vega 3). The dual channel memory controller supports DDR4-2400.

More information on Raven Ridge product family can be found in our launch article.

Performance

The average 3020e in our database sits close to the Celeron N4100 and the Core m3-8100Y, as far as multi-thread benchmark scores are concerned. Neither of the three is a performance monster, their fairly low power consumption figures being their main advantage.

Much like the two Intel chips, the 3020e will let you binge-watch Netflix and type e-mails but anything tougher than that will bring the APU to its limits quickly.

Your mileage may vary depending on how high the CPU power limits are.

Power consumption

This little APU has a default TDP (also known as the long-term power limit) of 6 W. Which is low and thus good enough for tablets, laptops and mini-PCs featuring no active cooling solution.

The AMD 3020e is built with a 14 nm process leading to low, as of early 2023, energy efficiency.

Intel Core i5-11300H

► remove from comparison Intel i5-11300H

The Intel Core i5-11300H is a mid range SoC for thin and light gaming laptops and mobile workstations. It is based on the Tiger Lake H35 generation and was announced early 2021. It integrates four Willow Cove processor cores (8 threads thanks to Hyper-Threading). The base clock speed depends on the TDP setting and can vary from 2.6 (28 W TDP) to 3.1 GHz (35 W). The boost of a single and two cores under load can reach up to 4.4 GHz. All four cores can reach up to 4 GHz. The L3 cache is reduced to 8 MB compared to the 12 MB of the higher end i7 models.

The SoC also has the improved Xe graphics adapter with 80 CUs running at up to 1,300 MHz.

Furthermore, Tiger Lake SoCs add PCIe 4 support (four lanes), AI hardware acceleration, and the partial integration of Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 and Wi-Fi 6 in the chip.

All articles on Tiger Lake can be found on our Tiger Lake architecture hub.

Performance

The average 11300H in our database proves to be an OK lower mid-range CPU, as of early 2022, its multi-thread benchmark scores nearly matching those of the AMD Ryzen 3 5300U. The Core i5 will handle most day-to-day activities with ease, only sweating at the sight of latest triple-A games and similar tasks.

Thanks to its decent cooling solution and a long-term CPU power limit of 40 W, the Nitro 5 AN517-53 is among the fastest laptops built around the 11300H that we know of. It can be around 50% faster in CPU-bound workloads than the slowest system featuring the same chip in our database, as of August 2023.

Power consumption

This Core i5 series chip has a default TDP of 28 W to 35 W, the expectation being that laptop makers will go for a higher value in exchange for higher performance. Either way, these values are way too high to allow for passively cooled designs.

The i5-11300H is built with Intel's third-generation 10 nm process marketed as SuperFin for lower-than-average, as of mid 2023, energy efficiency.

AMD Ryzen 7 2800H

► remove from comparison AMD R7 2800H

The AMD Ryzen 7 2800H is a mobile SoC that was announced late 2018. It is intended for mid-sized to big laptops and combines four Zen cores (8 threads) clocked at 3.3 (base) - 3.8 GHz (boost) with a Radeon RX Vega 11 Mobile graphics card with 11 CUs (704 Shaders). The integrated dual-channel memory controller supports up to DDR4-3200 memory.

Compared to the older Ryzen 7 2700U for slim and light laptops, the 2800H offers a higher TDP (45 Watt versus 15 Watt), higher clocked memory, a higher base clock (3.4 versus 2.2 GHz), and a faster integrated GPU.

More information on Raven Ridge can be found in our launch article.

Performance

While we have not tested a single system built around the 2800H as of August 2023, it's safe to expect the chip to be 10% to 15% faster than Ryzen 3 1200, as far as multi-thread performance is concerned.

Your mileage may vary depending on how high the CPU power limits are, and how competent the cooling solution of your system is.

Power consumption

This Ryzen 7 has a default TDP (also known as the long-term power limit) of 45 W, a value that laptop manufacturers are free to change to anything between 35 W and 54 W with clock speeds and performance changing correspondingly. All the values are rather high, making a high-performance cooling solution with two or three fans pretty much a necessity.

The CPU is built on an old, as of late 2022, 14 nm process for subpar energy efficiency.
