Why Oppo’s premium tablet appeals only to a specific target audience

With the Pad 5 Pro, Oppo has delivered a very good Android tablet. It’s no surprise that the Chinese manufacturer’s premium device (priced from around $800 at Trading Shenzhen) also earns a strong rating in our review.
However, we consider the Pad 5 Pro a clear recommendation only for one specific target group: power users who demand outstanding battery life without wanting to sacrifice a large display, for example, while traveling or as a mobile work companion. Because despite its strengths, we see three key areas of criticism that other premium tablets handle better, making the Oppo tablet less appealing to many users.
Oppo’s flagship tablet has surprisingly weak speakers
Although Oppo has equipped its premium tablet with a speaker system featuring four tweeters and four woofers, the sound quality did not impress us in our review. Pink‑noise measurements reveal a pronounced midrange, insufficient treble output, and bass that is almost entirely absent.
Oppo’s large Android tablet is quite heavy due to its XXL battery
With its slim 6-mm aluminum unibody design, the Pad 5 Pro feels very high-quality, though its heavy weight is clearly noticeable. The 13.2-inch tablet weighs 672 grams, making it nearly 100 grams heavier than an iPad Pro 13. The weight becomes a noticeable drawback, especially during extended use.
Android tablet with display but without desktop mode
Although ColorOS 16 is a very good user interface for Android, we still lack a true desktop mode. Even when outputting video via USB-C port and DisplayPort support, the system merely mirrors the screen content instead of offering a window-based multitasking interface.
As a result, depending on your intended use, there are very good alternatives to the Oppo Pad 5 Pro in the premium mid-range price segment. For those focused on multimedia use, the Honor MagicPad 4 is an excellent and fairly lightweight OLED tablet with great sound. For brute-force performance for video editing and similar tasks, the iPad Air 13 with the M4 chip is likely the better choice. Both tablets are also more widely available outside china.
