Garmin has debuted its Venu smartwatch in India. This wearable has a circular 1.2-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 390x390. It is protected by Gorilla Glass 3, and offers an always-on mode as well as animated watchfaces. This device is also emphatically sports-focused, with multiple tracking settings for approximately 20 types of exercise, including those for specific activities such as swimming, cycling and golfing.
Furthermore, the Garmin Venu supports heart rate monitoring as well as pulse oximetry for blood-oxygen levels during work-outs. However, it also does general wearable things such as smart notification management, on-watch message responses for in some apps (so long as an Android device is paired) and Spotify support.
Indian units of the Garmin Venu will also have NFC, but not Garmin Pay. However, the OEM has said it is working on Apple and Google Pay compatibility in this region. All in all, the Garmin Venu is clearly shooting to combine the appeal of a smartwatch and fitness tracker in one. This impression is reinforced by its build, which combines a silicone band and polymer case with a stainless steel bezel in a complementary or contrasting shade, depending on the SKU chosen.
These bezel/case-and-band options comprise silver/granite blue; slate/black, rose gold/light sand and gold/black. Garmin also estimates that the Venu's battery can last 5 days. It is set at 37490 INR on Amazon.in from December 15, 2019, and is also available in the US at a regular price of $399.99 (although it is out of stock at the time of writing). The Venu is also to launch in the European market later in the fourth quarter of 2019.
