Garmin has launched two new upgraded versions of its popular premium fitness and health Venu smartwatch. The new Venu 2 and Venu 2S devices look visually similar to their predecessor, but a number of upgrades have been made across the board. While the original came in a single 43 mm size, the new Venu 2 is 40 mm in size and the Venu 2S is 45 mm size, giving users more options when it comes to best fit.
The most notable upgrade to the Venu 2 models is with battery life. Where the original Venu could last up to 5 days in smartwatch mode, the Venu 2S can last up to 10 days and the Venu 2 can last up to 11 days. The smaller model is fitted with a new 1.1-inch AMOLED display and the larger model picks up a 1.3-inch AMOLED panel -- both have an optional always-on mode. Each display is also covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Other new features also include a sleep score and insights by Firstbeat Analytics, and a new fitness age that estimates the body’s age using chronological age, activity, resting heart rate and either body fat percentage or BMI. There is a new Health Snapshot to log, record and share key health stats and new HIIT workouts with on-screen animations. The Venu 2 and 2S also include 25 built-in indoor and GPS sports apps.
The Venu 2 and Venu 2S come in a range of colors and retail for the same US$399 price as the original Venu.
