Fēnix 6: Garmin announces Fēnix 6, Fēnix 6S, Fēnix 6X and Solar smartwatches

Garmin has refreshed its premium Fēnix smartwatch series, with the aptly named Fēnix 6. The series is available in three sizes and two material variants. There is a solar-powered version of the Fēnix 6X too.

The Fēnix 6 ​​series introduces many features and improvements over its predecessors, with Garmin offering all models in 42 mm, 47 mm and 51 mm sizes. The company sells all models with Corning Gorilla Glass or Sapphire Crystal faces too, which it markets as Pro and Sapphire respectively. The Fēnix 6 series includes the following:

  • New bezel design
  • Narrower case for the ​​6S
  • Larger display for the standard and X model
  • Optimised menu navigation for clearer a view of widgets
  • PacePro functionality
  • Significantly longer battery life
  • Power Manager functionality for managing power consumption
  • Automatic accident notification
  • Manual emergency assistance
  • Security and tracking functionalities
  • New maps for 2,000 ski resorts and 41,000 golf courses
  • TopoActive Europe map
  • Training functions with optimised heart rate tracking and PulseOx sensor for weather and altitude acclimatisation
  • New nylon, leather and silicone Quickfit watch bands
  • Smart features like Garmin Pay and smart notifications

As mentioned earlier, the Fēnix 6 Pro Solar uses Garmin Power Glass and a transparent lens for solar charging. Garmin estimates that the Fēnix ​​6X Pro Solar can last up to 24 days between charges in smartwatch mode and 21 days with its solar charging functionality disabled in watch mode. The company claims that the Fēnix ​​6S should last up to 25 hours in GPS mode and 20 days in expedition mode, while the Fēnix ​​6 should last 36 hours and 28 days respectively. By contrast, the Fēnix ​​6X is slated to last up to 60 hours in GPS mode and 46 days in expedition mode.
