Huawei has more up its sleeve for its next launch event than just the Mate 30 series. In anticipation of this Thursday's event in Munich, the Chinese company has teased the successor to the Watch GT, aptly named the Watch GT 2. Read on to see what the video reveals and what we know so far about Huawei's next smartwatch.

The rumours were true. Huawei has confirmed that it will be releasing the Watch GT 2, the second generation of its Watch GT series. Codenamed Latona, Roland Quandt has already leaked two designs that feature tan leather and silicone watch bands. It is also expected that Huawei will equip with the Watch GT 2 with a 445 mAh battery, 25 mAh larger than the one it used in the Watch GT.

Moreover, Huawei has already seemingly confirmed that the Kirin A1 SoC will underpin the new smartwatch series. Announced at IFA 2019, the Kirin A1 supports Bluetooth 5.1 and will feature in other wearables like the FreeBuds 3.

The teaser video points towards the Watch GT 2 doubling as a fitness tracker and it being waterproof. You can expect the smartwatch to include GPS too. It remains unclear whether Huawei will stick with LiteOS for the Watch GT 2, an in-house fork of Android that it used in the original Watch GT. Quandt has confirmed that the device will not run WearOS though, which is unsurprising considering that Huawei currently cannot sell any new devices running Google services.
