Nikon Z 6 Essential Movie Kit: A complete mirrorless camera solution for video production
Nikon has targeted the Z 6 Essential Movie Kit at video professionals and filmmakers that are looking for an entry into mirrorless camera film and video making. The Essential Movie Kit includes the Z 6 mirrorless camera and FTZ bayonet adapter, which allows you to connect F-mount NIKKOR lenses.
There is also a 5-axis image stabiliser included in the kit, which should allow you to capture blur-free digital vibration reduction (VR) shots. It also supports the Atomos protocol, which seamlessly integrates with the bundled Atomos Ninja V monitor recorder. Nikon has stated that it intends to release a firmware update before the end of the year that will enable ProRes RAW when using the Atomos Ninja V and filming in RAW, which should provide greater flexibility in post-production.
Nikon has included a quick release SmallRig camera mount, along with a top-mounted handle for easy scene tracking and smoother camera tracking when on the move. According to Nikon, the Z 6 Essential Movie Kit includes the following:
- Nikon Z 6 camera body
- Nikon FTZ Bayonet Adapter
- Atomos Ninja V
- SmallRig camera cage
- SmallRig quick release
- SmallRig Magic Arm:
- MH-25a battery charger
- 2x 5,200 mAh EN-EL15b batteries
The Z 6 camera body incorporates a 24.5 MP CMOS sensor that can adjust between 100 and 51,200 ISO. It can record 4K videos that it generates by downsampling 6K pixel data, or up to 120 FPS in 1080p. Nikon integrates its EXPEED 6 image processor too. The Z 6 Essential Movie Kit should go on sale before the end of the month at £2,639 (~US$3,291) or around €2,900.
