Xiaomi's next smartwatch will have a round face
Xiaomi will start the new year with a new smartwatch. Its last such wearable, the Mi Watch, was its first Wear OS device; now, this one is to be its first circular smartwatch. The former may have gained success due to its Apple Watch-esque esthetics, although a lack of classic timepiece looks may be a deal-breaker for some potential customers.
This new Watch Color has been teased by Xiaomi's sub-brand Mijia, suggesting it might be released under the same. Its promotional material suggest it is directed at women, particularly those in a younger age bracket. It is also indicated that, unlike the Mi Watch, it will have the same software found on the Amazfit GTS and GTR.
The new wearable does somewhat resembles the GTR, and also invites the possibility that the Watch Color will have its no-name chipset rather than the Snapdragon Wear 3100 of the Mi Watch. Then again, the newer model appears to have a larger, clear screen that may help with its use-cases. The round Xiaomi smartwatch will debut on January 3, 2020, although the OEM has yet to mention where and how it will be sold.
