Samsung Gear S2: New update improves battery life and UI
The Gear S2 has been around for years now, with Samsung releasing the smartwatch over five years ago. The device features an Exynos 3250 SoC, 512 MB of RAM and a 250 mAh battery, which all pale in comparison to the hardware the Samsung includes in the Galaxy Watch Active2, for example. However, the South Korean company has not forgotten about the Tizen-based Gear S2 yet.
Initially reported by Tizen Help, Samsung has now released a new update to Gear S2 units, which carries the version number R730AUCU3CQK1. The 6.79 MB update promises to improve battery life and overall device security, according to the changelog captured in a screenshot that we have included below. Considering that some units are running on four-year-old batteries, battery life optimisations make for a welcome addition.
Oddly, the new update is the first for the Gear S2 in almost two years. However, Tizen Help claims that it introduces more than is stated in the changelog. According to the website, R730AUCU3CQK1 updates the device's UI, so that its icons and widgets resemble those found in the much newer Galaxy Watch Active2. You can now clear all notifications at once, too.
