Amazfit GTR: Huami to launch its new smartwatch on July 16
Xiaomi partner Huami is releasing a new smartwatch in China next week. The event, which Huami is hosting in Beijing on July 16, will focus on the Amazfit GTR. The acronym stands for Grand Tour Racing, although we doubt that this refers to the Amazon Prime TV show starring Jeremy Clarkson et al. Instead, Huami posted a teaser of the upcoming smartwatch along with the strapline "Life is a Grand Tour, Life is a Long Race". Catchy.
The Chinese manufacturer has been talking up the 24-day battery life of the Amazfit GTR, but it is worth keeping in mind that companies often base their estimates on a best-case scenario. Hence, not something that most people will achieve in daily use. We assume that this claim does not refer to using the smartwatch constantly, but we could be wrong.
Smartwatches like the Samsung Galaxy Watch last around 35 hours between charges, so we are curious to see what features Huami has included, or more importantly omitted, to give the Amazfit GTR such a long battery life. The company has seemingly hinted that the smartwatch will come in three designs, with it sending three watch face-shaped discs to premier guests made of aluminium, titanium and stainless steel. At this stage, we do not know whether this refers to the watch body or strap, but the silhouette teaser implies that the device will come with two crowns.
