Resident Evil Requiem is largest game in series, as PS5 file size and pre-load date leak

As the Resident Evil Requiem release date approaches, there has been a debate over the title's length. News about the PS5 game’s file size suggests that plenty of gameplay hours await. At 72.88 GB, PlayStation Game Size reveals that it will require the largest download in the series.
Owners of the Sony console also now know that pre-loads are set to begin on February 25th. Otherwise, the Capcom project becomes available to play at midnight on February 27th. Most likely, the midnight release would apply to time zones.
The RE9 file size compared to past games
Many PS5 games consume over 100 GB of storage, including several Call of Duty titles and Gran Turismo 7. Nevertheless, at over 70 GB, Resident Evil Requiem would be heftier than the 2023 Resident Evil 4 remake. The modernized RE4 checked in at around 58 GB, then expanded to 70 GB with the Separate Ways DLC.
With some players accusing Resident Evil Village of being too small in scope, the 2021 PS4/PS5 title was only 27.3 GB. Survival horror entries generally don’t monopolize hard drive space like AAA titles that regularly see new content. Still, RE9 may force some buyers to delete favorites on the console’s SSD.
How long with RE9 take to beat?
The RE9 campaign is divided between Grace Ashcroft and Leon Kennedy. Some previews hint that it will take 15 hours to guide both characters through the impending dangers. However, insider Dusk Golem believes that mark could be closer to the 16-20 hour playtime of the RE4 remake. How quickly a player moves through environments and difficulty settings will affect those estimates.
Improved visuals could also inflate the Resident Evil Requiem file size. Ray tracing is again an option, but trailers display even higher-quality 4K textures. Notably, the Switch 2 port of the game only demands a 29.2 GB installation. Developers may have compressed the assets to a greater degree to accommodate the handheld’s smaller drive.
Pre-load times (if an option) for the Xbox Series X and Steam aren’t yet clear. In all probability, by its February 27th release date, these players can expect installs of a similar size to the PS5 version.
