Verdict: RTX 5050 Laptop debut is a mixed bag
The most exciting thing about the Erazer Scout 17 E1 from Medion is of course the brand-new graphics accelerator. With the GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop, Nvidia rounds off the mobile mid-range segment at the bottom and presents adequate performance for full HD displays in most cases.
That being said, many gamers would have liked a bigger leap from its predecessor, the RTX 4050 Laptop GPU (see benchmarks below). Apart from the graphics card used, the laptop itself offers a mix of positives and negatives.
While the chassis with its metal lid, the stable base, and the good input devices is quite convincing, there are a few weak points in the details.
In addition to the poor color gamut coverage and mediocre brightness of the 144 Hz screen, the poor sound quality, lack of connectivity options (no USB 4, no card reader) leave a lot to be desired.
Above all, the battery life is extremely short, though it could be a bug as the values in the test were suspiciously low.
You shouldn't expect a particularly fast CPU from the Erazer Scout 17 E1 either. The Intel Core 5 210H lags behind the processors in other gaming laptops in this price range.
Overall, the Scout 17 E1 currently seems a little too expensive to us as there are faster laptops with an RTX 5060 Laptop for just under €1,250 (as of the end of August 25) and the first RTX 5070-based laptops start at around €1,300.
Pricing around the €1,000 mark would have been more appropriate in this case.

Specifications
Chassis: Clevo barebones with metal lid
The chassis, which comes from the barebone expert Clevo, leaves a somewhat higher quality impression than the Lenovo LOQ 15 or MSI Katana 17.
The lid is made of metal, and the other surfaces hardly give way under stronger pressure. The workmanship and the hinges leave little to criticize as well. However, the chassis is prone to fingerprints — most dark laptops are, anyways.
Weighing 2.7 kg, the Scout 17 E1 is not necessarily a lightweight laptop and is on par with its MSI counterpart in this regard.
The overall height measures around 2.6 cm without the feet and just under 3.5 cm including the feet. The Erazer Scout 17 E1 is therefore neither thin nor particularly thick.
Equipment: Good Wi-Fi throughput, but no card reader or USB4
Interfaces
As mentioned earlier, the manufacturer has dispensed with both a card reader and USB4. Of the four USB ports available, one is in Type-C format and does not support Power Delivery, but it does support DisplayPort 1.4.
External screens can also be connected directly via HDMI or mini DisplayPort (both on the rear). The port selection is rounded off by an audio port, an RJ45 socket, and an opening for Kensington locks.
Communication
The Erazer Scout 17 E1 uses an Intel Wi-Fi chip. The Wi-Fi 6E AX211 performed well with a reference Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 router in both transmit and receive tests.
Webcam
You shouldn't expect any miracles from the webcam; the integrated 720p webcam delivers rather poor image sharpness and also has to make do without a privacy shutter.

Accessories
The laptop comes with a 180 W power supply unit and a fairly thick manual.
Maintenance
After removing the 13 Phillips screws from the underside, the base of the case can be relatively easily removed from its anchoring. Inside, there are two RAM and two SSD slots in addition to the cooling system, the battery, and the WLAN module. One SSD slot is still free.
Sustainability
Unfortunately, a lot of plastic is used in the packaging. Other manufacturers do this better.
Warranty
Medion offers a 24-month warranty on the Erazer Scout 17 E1 in Germany.
Input devices: Full-size RGB keyboard and large touchpad
Keyboard
With its relatively long key travel, the Scout 17 E1's keyboard is reminiscent of mechanical representatives, although the typing feels rather soft. Other manufacturers could take an example from the layout, as the arrangement hardly deviates from the German standard.
Thanks to the ample space available, this 17-inch model also includes a fully-fledged numeric keypad. Of course, configurable RGB lighting is also on board. To emphasize the gamer target group, the WASD keys are made transparent.
Touchpad
The Erazer Scout 17 E1 sports a pleasantly large touchpad for a 17-inch device with a generous surface area of 15 cm x 9 cm, which delivered a good performance during use whether in terms of precision, gliding properties, or gestures.
Display: Dim panel with poor color gamut coverage and no PWM
The 144 Hz IPS panel may seem quite good on paper, but some shortcomings become apparent in practice.
Starting with the brightness, an average of 260 cd/m² is a rather modest value, making the 17-inch screen hardly suitable for outdoor use.

Performance: Rare Core 5 210H shows up once again
The Erazer Scout 17 E1's performance is in the lower mid-range of gaming notebooks. 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD are reasonable for the estimated price, especially as the latter components can be upgraded if desired.
Test conditions
There are three operating modes in the Control Center, which are tailored or aimed at different usage scenarios. With the exception of the battery test, all measurements were carried out in Performance mode, which teases out slightly more CPU and GPU performance than the Entertainment profile.
The speed drops significantly in Silent mode, but the device also remains much quieter under load.

Processor
The Core 5 210H is a rather rarely used model from Intel's Raptor Lake generation. The 10 nm chip contains four performance cores including Hyper-Threading and four efficiency cores without HT, so that a total of 12 parallel threads are possible.
The 210H has a somewhat difficult time against processors of competing laptops. A Core i5-13500H is almost 12% faster according to our CPU rating, while a Ryzen 7 250 around 20%. The Ryzen 7 260 and Core i7-14650HX even sprint by around 30%.

System performance
Not least due to the somewhat weaker CPU, the Erazer Scout 17 E1 ends up in last place among the comparison devices in the system tests (only the Essentials test worked in PCMark 10, after which the benchmark reproducibly aborted).
Subjectively, programs also take a little longer to start than we are used to from gaming notebooks.

Storage devices
Medion equips the Scout 17 E1 with an M.2 2280 1 TB SSD from Phison. The NVMe drive is not necessarily one of the fastest of its kind, although there were no drops in the loop test as in the case of the Lenovo LOQ 15, for example.

GPU performance
While the RTX 5060 Laptop has significantly fewer shader units than the RTX 5070 Laptop (3,328 vs 4,608), the RTX 5050 Laptop with its 2,560 shaders only falls behind the RTX 5060 to a limited extent.
The major improvement compared to the last gen RTX 4050 Laptop GPU is the increased video memory. 8 GB GDDR7 instead of 6 GB GDDR6 may not be top of the range in 2025, but it is still more or less appropriate for this price and performance class (the VRAM in the RTX 5060, and especially the RTX 5070, deserve stronger criticism).
The TGP is set at a maximum of 115 W (including Dynamic Boost). Nevertheless, the RTX 5050 Laptop can hardly stand out from its predecessor in the synthetic tests.
The older Erazer Crawler E40 was only around 10% slower on average (in the Fire Strike test, the difference is at least almost 20%). An RTX 5060 Laptop is around 15% ahead here while an RTX 5070 Laptop is just over 20% faster.

Gaming performance
A native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 is a little poor considering the screen diagonal, but full HD is exactly the right number of pixels for the RTX 5050 Laptop.
High settings are usually possible in extremely demanding or poorly optimized titles such as F1 25, Oblivion Remastered, and Indiana Jones, even if it is not possible to always attain 60 fps.
Occasionally (especially with older titles), the RTX 5050 Laptop still has reserves for QHD. Thanks to modern upscaling technologies, the frame rate can be increased if necessary.
With DLSS 4, the performance in Cyberpunk 2077 at 2,560 x 1,440 resolution and the Ultra preset, for example, climbs from 47.2 to 64.5 fps. Toggling frame generation, enables even higher 92.5 fps.

Emissions: Loud fans but low surface temperatures
Noise emissions
The fan control is surprisingly okay by Clevo standards. In idle mode, the cooling system usually runs at a discreet 27 to 29 dB(A), while the interim speed-up is limited at 32 dB(A).
Under load, the fans unfortunately become quite loud, which is not uncommon with most gaming laptops. 47 to 58 dB(A) corresponds to a clearly audible level, which is, or can become, unpleasant without a headset. Many competitors perform similarly poorly here.

Surface temperatures always remained below the 50 °C mark, even while gaming. We particularly liked the fact that the palm rest area never got warmer than 30 °C.
(±) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 42 °C / 108 F, compared to the average of 40.5 °C / 105 F, ranging from 21.2 to 68.8 °C for the class Gaming.
(±) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 45 °C / 113 F, compared to the average of 43.3 °C / 110 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 27.9 °C / 82 F, compared to the device average of 33.9 °C / 93 F.

Stress test
In our stress test with the Furmark and Prime95 tools, the GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop stabilized at around 73 °C, while the Core 5 210H reached around 80 °C — both acceptable values.
Loudspeaker
One of the biggest weaknesses of the Scout 17 E1 is the poor sound quality. As with the Crawler E40, there is not only a lack of maximum volume but also a lack of bass.
Most gaming laptops tend to offer much better sound.

With the power supply plugged in, the power consumption is not very high. Idle power draws between 13 W and 23 W and load consumption ranging from 87 W to 195 W are similar to the predecessor with RTX 4050 Laptop GPU.

Battery life
The Erazer Scout 17 E1's battery life turned out to be quite strange. Although a 53 Wh battery is rather modest (the current counterparts feature 60 Wh to 80 Wh batteries), a run time of only 1.5 hours in our WLAN test with the brightness reduced to 150 cd/m² indicates a bug or a driver problem.
At first, we thought it was the dedicated GPU, as Nvidia's Blackwell generation is currently still struggling with problems such as black screens, increased energy consumption, and faulty graphics switching in numerous laptops (we were using the latest driver version 581.08 at the time of testing).
However, the phenomenon also occurred when the dGPU was completely deactivated. We have contacted Medion in this regard.

Notebookcheck's overall impressions of the Medion Erazer Scout 17 E1
The Medion Erazer Scout 17 E1 is particularly eye-catching thanks to the brand-new RTX 5050 Laptop. At the current price, however, we would recommend a cheaper gaming laptop with an RTX 5060 or RTX 5070, some of which hardly cost any more than the Scout 17 E1.
However, it remains to be seen how other RTX 5050 laptops rank in terms of entry-level and average pricing.
