Verdict - The Blade 18 is better and worse than before
Razer has extensively redesigned the Blade 18. However, the new design includes a bulge for the cooling system, which doesn't look particularly harmonious. However, the cooling performance itself is adequate, and when gaming, the new Blade 18 is one of the quieter models on the market, even in turbo mode. Performance with the RTX 5090 mobile GPU is excellent; however, it lacks support for PCIe 5.0. Razer has also included a dedicated number pad, but the typing experience suffers due to short key travel.
Regarding the display, we're not sure how many people will use the 440 Hz Full HD mode. Image quality suffers slightly, and in 4K mode, you also get a smooth 240 Hz. There's also no longer an optional mini-LED panel, and overall, we reckon this would have been a better option for many users.
Overall, the Blade 18 is an excellent gaming notebook, but our $4,899 review configuration is certainly not a bargain. While the performance is decent, it's arguable whether it's truly an improvement over the predecessor (display, design).
Pros
Cons
Price and availability
At the time of testing, the Blade 18 is currently unavailable on Amazon.
Razer has significantly redesigned its Blade 18 and installed more powerful cooling. It also now features a new dual-mode IPS display, the resolution of which can be reduced from 4K/240 Hz to Full HD to increase the refresh rate to 440 Hz. The Blade 18 with the RTX 5070 Ti mobile GPU starts at $3,499. Our review configuration with the RTX 5090 mobile GPU, 64 GB of RAM, and 4 TB of SSD storage costs $4,899.
Specifications
Case & features
Razer has redesigned the chassis, and although the design appears unchanged at first glance, a significant change is evident, especially on the underside. There's now a distinct bulge for the cooling system, which, together with the stand, is almost as high as some subnotebooks. There's also a viewing window in the center of this bulge, but only the printed vapor chamber is visible. In our opinion, this bulge detracts from the Blade 18's visual design.
The quality of the metal chassis remains excellent, and the hinges (maximum opening angle 135 degrees) are well-adjusted. The black surfaces are still a fingerprint magnet, but the base unit and lid are easy to clean. Razer has dispensed with extensive lighting, and only the logo, the viewing window, and the keyboard are illuminated.
The laptop is equipped with all the modern standards, such as Thunderbolt 5 and Wi-Fi 7, but there are no ports on the rear. The Wi-Fi module offers good transfer speeds, the spring-loaded SD card reader is fast, and the 5 MP webcam (with a mechanical shutter and IR module) takes decent pictures.

Input devices - Now with a numerical pad
Razer has installed a black keyboard as well as a dedicated numerical pad. However, it offers a comparatively short key travel, especially considering the thick chassis. While keystrokes are very precise, the overall typing feel doesn't quite live up to expectations for a high-end device. The lighting can be extensively configured (and for each key). The large glass clickpad (15 x 9.8 cm) offers excellent gliding properties, and the mechanical clicks in the lower area are very quiet and high-quality.
Display - A dual-mode 440 Hz 4K IPS
Razer has chosen to equip the new Blade 18 exclusively with a matte, dual-mode IPS display. The resolution is 3,840 x 2,400 pixels with a 240 Hz refresh rate, but the display can optionally be switched to 1,920 x 1,200 pixels with a higher refresh rate of 440 Hz (although this requires a reboot). Scaling isn't automatically adjusted, and image quality suffers somewhat. The subjective image impression made by the matte panel is good, and even bright areas don't appear grainy; however, the colours aren't as vibrant as those found on OLED screens. PWM flickering is absent, and response times are fast. The maximum brightness averages 510 cd/m². The black level is slightly higher at 0.41 cd/m², and this is why the contrast ratio is "only" ~1,300:1.

* ... smaller is better
We analyzed the panel using the professional CalMAN software; however, we encountered some issues with the factory profiles. Aside from the default profile, all of them only covered the sRGB color space, which shouldn't be the case. Furthermore, the grayscale and color deviations (in both the default and sRGB settings) were quite high. However, using our calibration, we were able to significantly improve the display.

Processor - Core Ultra 9 275HX
Razer uses the latest Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, and, although the performance is very good, it doesn't fully take advantage of the processor's potential. Some competitors are slightly faster, but this doesn't make a real difference in practice. The CPU advantage over the old Blade 18 and its Core i9-14900HX is 20% across all benchmarks. Under sustained load, CPU performance remains completely stable.

Mass storage
The Blade 18 offers two M.2 2280 slots for dual-sided drives, and our review unit also features two 2 TB Lexar SSDs. The PCIe 4.0 SSDs perform well, but Razer doesn't offer PCIe 5.0.

GPU performance
The Blade 18 houses the fastest 175-watt version of the GeForce RTX 5090 mobile GPU. The GPU performance is very good in both the synthetic tests as well as when playing games. With the 4K display, you can see the performance advantage compared to the RTX 5080 mobile GPU. It also makes better use of the GPU, although some titles are too demanding without upscaling (e.g., F1 25). Under sustained load, GPU performance remains completely stable.

Noise emissions
The massive cooling system and the two fans (plus the small case fan) are often inaudible in everyday use, especially when using one of the lower power profiles. The fans become noticeable under load, and we measured a maximum of 48 dB(A) while gaming, even in Turbo mode. In the stress test with higher CPU load, it reached up to 53 dB(A). Balanced mode, with a maximum of 43 dB(A), is particularly interesting for gaming, as performance is still very good. No other electronic noises were detected on the review unit.

Temperature
The case temperatures are completely safe, and this is an area where the powerful cooling system makes a positive impact. Even in the stress test, we measured a maximum of 44°C on the top of the base unit (even less on the bottom). Although the keyboard gets noticeably warm, there are no limitations. In the stress test, the GPU ran at its full 175 watts, and the processor at 90 watts.
(±) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 44.3 °C / 112 F, compared to the average of 40.5 °C / 105 F, ranging from 21.2 to 68.8 °C for the class Gaming.
(±) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 42 °C / 108 F, compared to the average of 43.3 °C / 110 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 26.1 °C / 79 F, compared to the device average of 33.9 °C / 93 F.
(-) 3: The average temperature for the upper side is 39.1 °C / 102 F, compared to the average of 33.9 °C / 93 F for the class Gaming.
(-) The palmrests and touchpad can get very hot to the touch with a maximum of 40.6 °C / 105.1 F.
(-) The average temperature of the palmrest area of similar devices was 28.9 °C / 84 F (-11.7 °C / -21.1 F).

Speakers
The sound system consists of 6 modules (2x tweeters, 4x woofers) and, overall, it provides very good sound. However, this is an area where the predecessor performed slightly better.

Power consumption
The Blade 18 isn't a particularly efficient laptop. We measured a maximum of 28 watts when idling at full brightness. This is primarily due to the large 4K display. Reducing the frequency from 240 to 60 Hz reduced idle consumption by around 6.5 watts. In the stress test, we measured a maximum of just under 370 watts, so the 400-watt power supply is perfectly adequate.

Battery life
The large 99 Wh battery provides good runtimes. In our Wi-Fi test at 150 cd/m² (corresponding to 45% of maximum brightness on the review device) and 60 Hz, we measured a runtime of 7 hours 45 minutes, and at full brightness, we still managed 4 hours 10 minutes of runtime.
