In addition to the Core X V2 eGPU enclosure, Razer has also unveiled a new dock with Thunderbolt 5. This dock has a bandwidth of 80 Gbps or even up to 120 Gbps when connecting monitors. The accessory supports an 8K monitor at 60Hz, a 4K display at 240Hz, or three 4K monitors at 144Hz, all via a single cable that’s hooked up to a laptop or gaming handheld.
Connected devices can further be charged with up to 140 watts. In order to prevent the dock from overheating under full load, Razer has opted for an active fan that also helps keep the M.2 SSD's temperatures in check. The dock supports an M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD with up to 8TB of capacity. Along the bottom edge of the dock, there's RGB lighting that can be synchronized with other Razer products via Razer Chroma.
On the right side of the dock, there's a UHS-II SD card reader, while all other ports are located on the rear. These include four Thunderbolt 5 ports, one of which is used to connect to the computer. Additionally, there are two USB-A ports, Gigabit Ethernet, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a regular USB-C port. Therefore, the Razer docking station does not sport HDMI or DisplayPort, which can be used via corresponding adapters.
Price and availability
The Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock Chroma is now available for $399 at Razer’s official online store or Amazon. A silver version is available for $10 less.
