Verdict - Strong performance with fair compromises
New and usable laptops for under 500 euros have become a rarity. The Acer Aspire Go 15 steps into the breach. If you want to replace your old laptop with Windows 10 after all, our test device may be all you need. In most cases, a significant leap in performance should be noticeable compared to older devices. Switching to a modern platform is therefore not only inexpensive with this notebook, but also noticeably more powerful.
For the low price, the Aspire Go 15 is also an unexpectedly good laptop. The combination of a fast Core i5 processor and 16 GB RAM ensures consistently smooth operation. The bright and matt 16:10 display and the durable battery round off the strengths for productive use.
Of course, the low price requires compromises: The plastic casing, the unlit keyboard and the only moderate color fidelity of the otherwise good display are the most obvious points here. However, if you are looking for a reliable and, above all, durable companion for the office, studying or private surfing and can do without gaming or professional video editing, the Aspire Go 15 offers a price-performance package that is currently hard to beat.
Pros
Cons
Price and availability
While the Aspire Go 15 is listed on Amazon for around 556 euros, it is at Cyberport and Computeruniverse at a price of 499 euros, it is considerably cheaper and thus undercuts the 500 euro mark.
Specifications
Case & equipment
The Acer Aspire Go 15 comes in a plastic casing as an affordable everyday device. However, the unagitated "Steel Gray" color leaves a high-quality impression. The stability of the case is okay, and the hinges hold the screen well in position, but are pleasantly smooth-running. A small but noticeable detail is the slight bulge at the top edge of the display, which houses the 0.9 MP webcam. Its image is usable for video calls, but is not particularly clear or detailed.
There is no need to compromise on the wireless connection. A module from Mediatek is used here, which supports the modern WiFi 6E wireless standard. This can also use the less busy 6 GHz band, which ensures stable transmission speeds in practice.
Sustainability
It is generally possible to repair the device, and components such as the SSD, RAM or WLAN module can be replaced. However, Acer does not provide official maintenance instructions. There are no well-known sustainability seals such as TCO or EPEAT, but the manufacturer does provide a transparent PCF document. This puts the CO₂ footprint over the entire life cycle at 302 kgCO₂e. The lion's share of this, namely 82.4%, is accounted for by production alone. Although the packaging contains plastic, it is easily recyclable overall.
Input devices
A rubber-dome keyboard is used, without backlighting. The typing feel is a little spongy at first, but after a short familiarization period, texts can be written quickly. The touchpad is a positive feature. It is pleasantly large and offers a smooth surface that offers little resistance to the fingers and allows precise input.
Display
The built-in 15.3-inch display with Full HD resolution leaves a solid impression. Thanks to IPS technology, the viewing angles are stable and it achieves a maximum brightness of around 320 cd/m². This is bright enough, in combination with the matte surface, to be able to work outdoors as long as direct sunlight is avoided.
The color reproduction is fine for a device in this price range. With a coverage of 60% of the sRGB color space, the notebook is nothing for professional image editing, but it is easily sufficient for everyday tasks such as surfing and office work. The absence of pulse width modulation (PWM) is a big plus. The response times are also at a reasonable level for everyday and office use.

Performance
The performance of the Acer Aspire Go 15 is surprisingly powerful for a laptop in the under 500 euro price range. The Intel Core i5-1334U processor in combination with the modern 16 GB RAM ensures a fast working experience. Compared to sister models with a Core i3 processor, a significant leap in performance is noticeable.
Processor
In everyday use with Office applications and surfing the Internet, the Core i5-1334U shows no weaknesses. The system responds quickly and smoothly throughout, even with several programs running in parallel. However, when it comes to more demanding, computing-intensive tasks such as video or extensive image processing, longer waiting times are to be expected. Ultimately, the Core i5 can easily keep up with the Intel Core Ultra 5 and Core Ultra 7 from the new Lunar Lake generation, as our comparison shows.

Mass storage
An NVMe SSD from Kingston is used for mass storage. This delivers good transfer rates in normal operation, ensuring fast system start-ups and short program loading times. However, there is a small snag with longer, continuous read processes: Here, the memory controller tends to throttle quickly. This means that performance drops noticeably to protect against overheating.

GPU performance
The Acer Aspire Go 15 is not designed for ambitious gamers. The performance of the integrated graphics unit is simply too weak for modern 3D titles. Therefore, significantly reduced detail levels and low resolutions are recommended for current titles.

Emissions & Energy
Noise emissions
The cooling system of the Aspire Go 15 is quite active. The fans like to start up even under low load, but their volume always remains in the unobtrusive range and does not produce any annoying noise. There is no manual control of the fan curves or dedicated performance modes, as can sometimes be found in manufacturer software.

Temperature
The downside of the active cooling is positive: the surface temperatures remain pleasantly cool throughout, even under load. The wrist-rest in particular barely warmed up in the test, which makes it comfortable to work with.
(+) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 38.7 °C / 102 F, compared to the average of 34.3 °C / 94 F, ranging from 21.2 to 62.5 °C for the class Office.
(±) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 41.5 °C / 107 F, compared to the average of 36.8 °C / 98 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 24.8 °C / 77 F, compared to the device average of 29.5 °C / 85 F.
(+) The palmrests and touchpad are cooler than skin temperature with a maximum of 27.1 °C / 80.8 F and are therefore cool to the touch.
(±) The average temperature of the palmrest area of similar devices was 27.6 °C / 81.7 F (+0.5 °C / 0.9 F).

energy consumption
The notebook is typically economical in its class at energy consumption. However, there is one peculiarity under full load: during short power peaks (boost), the power supply unit supplied is completely exhausted. There are then no reserves to charge the battery in parallel - on the contrary, energy is even drawn from the battery for a short time to cover the demand.
