Verdict - Budget notebook with a good display but RAM bandwidth issues
The Chuwi CoreBook X presents itself as an affordable notebook with solid everyday features. The efficient AMD Ryzen 5 7430U delivers enough power for typical tasks such as office, internet, and multimedia. The 14-inch display with 2K resolution stands out positively in this price range and ensures a sharp display. The build quality is decent considering the price, even if minor weaknesses such as the noisy touchpad or the keyboard, which takes some getting used to, are noticeable.
There are also limitations in terms of graphics performance, which is not sufficient for modern games. All in all, the Chuwi CoreBook X offers a balanced combination of performance, display quality, and mobility at a price of just 399 euros. It is an interesting choice for pupils, students, and office users who are looking for a reliable work device without great luxury, but with a solid price-performance ratio.
Pros
Cons
Price and availability
The Chuwi CoreBook X is currently available for $395 and can be ordered directly from the manufacturer's store.
Specifications
Case & features
The casing is strongly reminiscent of other Chuwi models and also uses a mixture of gray metal and plastic. While the surface looks high-quality from a distance, it leaves a rather delicate impression in the hand. The stability does not reach the level of premium metal devices but is still more solid than that of cheaper plastic notebooks such as the Asus VivoBook or Acer Aspire, which are priced closer to our test device. The connectivity is minimalistic, but offers the most necessary ports for everyday use.

Sustainability
Chuwi does not provide any information on sustainability for the CoreBook X. There is no information on the carbon footprint or the use of recycled materials, and the packaging is a combination of cardboard and foam.
Input devices
The keys offer precise and strong feedback, which noticeably improves the typing experience. However, the right shift key is smaller, as Chuwi has integrated full-size arrow keys instead. The CoreBook X is only offered with the QWERTY layout, which is also equipped with a two-stage backlight. For other language layouts, Chuwi includes rubber pads that reduce the typing experience somewhat.
At 13.2 x 8.4 cm, the clickpad is very generous and offers a noticeably firmer and louder click feedback than many other models. However, the finger does not glide over it quite as effortlessly, as the surface is a little grippy and could have been smoother.
Display
The 14-inch display of the Chuwi CoreBook X with 2K resolution leaves a good overall impression. The viewing angles remain stable thanks to the IPS panel, and with a maximum brightness of around 360 cd/m², it is sufficiently bright. With the glossy surface, there are some reflections in unfavorable lighting conditions. Direct sunlight should also be avoided.
The color reproduction is okay for this price range. With almost 100 percent sRGB coverage, the CoreBook X is suitable for hobby image or video editing, provided the display is calibrated, as the Delta-E-2000 values are significantly higher in the delivery state. We measure pulse width modulation (PWM) from a display brightness of 90 percent and below. PWM is not an issue with the Chuwi CoreBook X at full display brightness.

The display backlight flickers at 20000 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) Flickering detected at a brightness setting of 90 % and below. There should be no flickering or PWM above this brightness setting. The frequency of 20000 Hz is quite high, so most users sensitive to PWM should not notice any flickering. In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8152 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured. | |||
Processor
The CoreBook X is powered by the efficient AMD Ryzen 5 7430U with 6 cores and 12 threads. With clock speeds of up to 4.3 GHz, it offers sufficient performance for everyday use - be it office, multimedia or light multitasking. Under prolonged full load, however, the performance is limited by the comparatively low power limit of 25 watts.

System performance
The CoreBook X delivers solid system performance in everyday use, which is completely sufficient for common applications. In synthetic benchmarks, however, it ranks in the midfield due to the limited power consumption and the installed single-channel RAM.

Temperature
The CoreBook X heats up slightly more than some other devices, such as the Acer Aspire 14, in everyday use, for example, when surfing the web or working with office applications. The temperatures rise slightly again under higher load but do not reach critical levels. Cooling is provided by a single heatpipe in combination with a fan. The Ryzen 5 7430U briefly reaches just under 80 C in the stress test, but this is still within AMD's specifications.
(±) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 42.4 °C / 108 F, compared to the average of 35.9 °C / 97 F, ranging from 21.4 to 59 °C for the class Subnotebook.
(±) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 41.4 °C / 107 F, compared to the average of 39.3 °C / 103 F
(±) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 32.2 °C / 90 F, compared to the device average of 30.8 °C / 87 F.
(+) The palmrests and touchpad are reaching skin temperature as a maximum (32.4 °C / 90.3 F) and are therefore not hot.
(-) The average temperature of the palmrest area of similar devices was 28.2 °C / 82.8 F (-4.2 °C / -7.5 F).

Speakers
The speakers built into the CoreBook X are well suited for video conferencing and simple multimedia content. However, low frequencies are hardly reproduced, which makes the overall sound quite treble-heavy. For a more balanced audio experience with music or movies, we therefore recommend using headphones or external speakers.
