Two well-known leakers have provided more details on the next generation of Leica-branded cameras, which is already set to launch in China in a little over five months. It already seems fairly certain that it will use two 200MP sensors, but in the details as well, Xiaomi apparently is taking more cues from Oppo's and Vivo's current Ultra phones.

Will the Xiaomi 18 Pro be a cheaper version of the Oppo Find X9 Ultra and Vivo X300 Ultra? It increasingly looks that way, at least. It has been known for some time that Xiaomi is currently testing prototypes of the Xiaomi 17 Pro successors with two 200 MP sensors. So far, a dual-200MP setup has been an exclusive feature of both the Vivo X300 Ultra and the upcoming Oppo Find X9 Ultra. A few hours ago, well-known Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station commented on the top five Chinese smartphone makers, which, besides Xiaomi, include Huawei, Honor, Oppo, and Vivo.

Several of them, apparently including Xiaomi, are expected to rely more heavily toward the end of the year on dual-200 MP camera systems based on 1/1.28-inch sensors from Chinese component maker SmartSens, whose high-end version will support the third generation of LOFIC HDR for exceptional dynamic range. Xiaomi already uses LOFIC for the 1-inch sensor in the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and by the end of 2026 the technology could also be used for the telephoto camera in a new version, as clarified in the comments on Weibo.

A 1/1.28-inch telephoto sensor will debut in the Oppo Find X9 Ultra, marking another parallel with the upcoming Hasselblad-branded camera. Xiaomi also appears to be planning changes to the optics, as Indian leaker Kartikey Singh suggested on X. According to him, a current prototype is no longer being tested with 5x optical zoom at an equivalent focal length of around 115mm, but instead at 85mm, which exactly matches the setup used in Vivo flagships such as the Vivo X300 Pro and Vivo X300 Ultra. Whether all of these indications will prove accurate remains to be seen. The features of these early prototypes are not necessarily guaranteed to make it into mass production, and further adjustments could still happen before then.
