Verdict - XMG Core 16 is a solid mid-range gaming laptop
The XMG Core 16 (M25) is a good 16-inch gaming machine featuring a discreet, professional design. If you plan to use your laptop for both work and play, this is an ideal choice, as the aluminum chassis won't look out of place in any office setting. The cooling fans are also quiet during typical daily use. Performance from the Zen 5 chip and RTX 5070 GPU is strong, and the notebook offers excellent flexibility in terms of RAM and storage.
There are no serious deal-breakers. While you will have to forgo Wi-Fi 7 and Advanced Optimus, the laptop compensates with a generous selection of ports (including USB 4), a comfortable keyboard, and a quality IPS display suitable for both gaming and productivity. Additionally, the battery life is quite good.

Cons
Price and availability
The new XMG Core 16 M25 can be ordered from Bestware starting at €1,579 (approximately $1,842).
Translator's note: Schenker's devices are not officially available in North America.
With the new Core 16 (M25), XMG offers an affordable mid-range gaming laptop featuring a fast 300 Hz IPS display that relies on AMD CPUs and NVIDIA's new RTX 5000 GPUs. The base price is €1,579, and we are testing the variant with the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, 64 GB of RAM, a 2 TB SSD, and the RTX 5070 laptop GPU for around €2,100 (without the operating system).
Specifications
Case & equipment
Visually, the XMG Core 16 M25 has a restrained design with matte black surfaces and looks like the slimmer sibling of the XMG Neo 16. The build quality and rigidity of the aluminum chassis are excellent, although the surfaces tend to pick up fingerprints and smudges easily. The display can open up to 180 degrees and remains stable at any angle. Maintenance options are generous: both RAM slots, both SSD slots, the WLAN module, and the battery are user-replaceable.
The WLAN module supports Wi-Fi 6E and offers high transfer speeds. The 1080p webcam (with IR sensor and mechanical shutter) captures decent images, and the laptop offers plenty of connectivity options, including USB 4 and a card reader.

Input devices
The keyboard is the same one used in the smaller Core 15, and it performs well here too. It features large keys, a dedicated numeric keypad, per-key RGB backlighting with four brightness levels, and a comfortable typing feel. The large clickpad (12.3 x 7.7 cm) offers smooth gliding and precise tracking, though the mechanical clicks in the lower area are a bit loud.
Display - IPS with 300 Hz & FreeSync
The 16-inch matte IPS screen offers excellent image quality, and even bright content does not appear grainy. With a resolution of 2,560 × 1,600 pixels, motion appears very smooth thanks to the 300 Hz refresh rate (with FreeSync support) and fast response times. There’s no PWM flickering.
Factory color profiles for both P3 and sRGB are available, although the two P3 presets could be a bit better. After calibration, the display’s color accuracy improves noticeably, making it well-suited for image and video editing in both P3 and sRGB color spaces. Average brightness reaches about 480 cd/m², and the contrast ratio is roughly 1,200:1.

Test conditions
XMG offers different energy profiles and we ran the benchmarks in Overboost - Normal mode. There is also the Overboost - Extreme mode, but this did not result in any further increase in performance. In the synthetic tests, we were able to elicit a maximum of 100 watts from the GPU, but it was up to 115 watts when gaming.

Processor
The AMD Ryzen HX 9 HX 370 is a fast mobile processor with Zen 5 cores and the performance remains stable, but it cannot keep up with Intel's HX processors. You can also see very clearly that the chip hardly benefits from TDP values above 70 watts.

System performance
The Core 16 performs very quickly in everyday use, and we encountered no stability issues. The only hiccup was that the PCMark 10 benchmark repeatedly crashed, which was likely caused by the current Nvidia GPU driver.

System Noise
The cooling system performs well overall, as the two fans are barely audible during light workloads, even in Overboost-Normal mode. We recorded a maximum noise level of 49.2 dB(A) during gaming and stress testing, making the Core 16 the quietest laptop in our comparison group. Once the load subsides, the fan speed quickly drops back down. No additional electronic noises were detected.

Temperature
The chassis stays pleasantly cool during everyday use, but under heavy load we measured over 50 °C in several areas on the underside, with peak temperatures reaching 58 °C. In these situations, it’s best not to keep the laptop on your lap. During the stress test, the processor maintained 45 W at around 80 °C, while the GPU ran at 100 W and roughly 85 °C.
(-) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 46.7 °C / 116 F, compared to the average of 40.5 °C / 105 F, ranging from 21.2 to 68.8 °C for the class Gaming.
(-) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 58.5 °C / 137 F, compared to the average of 43.3 °C / 110 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 27.6 °C / 82 F, compared to the device average of 33.9 °C / 93 F.
(-) 3: The average temperature for the upper side is 39.1 °C / 102 F, compared to the average of 33.9 °C / 93 F for the class Gaming.
(+) The palmrests and touchpad are cooler than skin temperature with a maximum of 31.1 °C / 88 F and are therefore cool to the touch.
(-) The average temperature of the palmrest area of similar devices was 28.9 °C / 84 F (-2.2 °C / -4 F).
