The LG Ultragear 45GX950A-B is not the typical ultrawide OLED gaming monitor. It produces an extremely sharp and immersive 5K2K resolution image. The Amazon sale price is one of the first discounts on the new 45-inch LG monitor.

Once unusual sights on desks, ultrawide monitors are now more mainstream. However, the LG Ultragear 45GX950A-B has specs that differentiate it from other OLED gaming monitor options. The 45-inch display boasts an unusual 5K2K WUHD (5120 x 2160) resolution, offering a sharper picture than most competitors. With a severe 800R curvature, it's immersive both for gaming and productivity. Released in early April, the LG monitor is already discounted by $400 for a $1600 Amazon sale price.

A multi-mode OLED monitor for gaming and work

The 5K2K resolution offers better than 4K-quality in an ultrawide form factor. Buyers will need to devote significant real estate to the LG monitor. Still, the rewards are an incredibly detailed picture that wraps around viewers. The immense pixel count will stress GPUs during gaming, but it's not as demanding for desktop use.

The 45GX950A-B sports a dual mode that lowers the resolution to 2560 x 1080 but bumps its refresh rate from 165Hz to 330Hz. Consequently, the OLED gaming monitor becomes more tempting to competitive gamers. Reviews of the Ultragear model reveal nearly imperceptible input lag. With DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 ports, the display supports VRR technologies to reduce screen tearing.

How the LG 45GX950A-B compares to the competition

One advantage of large ultrawide monitors is the ability to stack multiple apps side by side. A 125 PPI means that text remains razor sharp, but its lower resolution mode can introduce fringing. While its stand invites ergonomic adjustments, USB connectivity is somewhat limited. Ultimately, impressions find it more than adequate for productivity, but outstanding for gaming.

LG's ultrawide monitor has a semi-gloss coating to handle reflections. Even so, like most WOLED panels, other QD-OLED displays achieve a higher peak brightness.

For a similar option, LG has announced the 45GX990A-B with a bendable screen that converts from flat to curved. Its release date and price are uncertain, unlike the 45GX950A-B, which is on sale now for $1600.
