New HP monitor released with 5K2K resolution and 165 W combined Thunderbolt 3 ports
The Series 7 Pro 39.7 inch 5K2K Conferencing Monitor (HP 740pm), is one of HP's latest monitors, having been announced alongside the HP 732pk that we detailed earlier this week. For reference, the HP 732pk combines a 31.5-inch IPS Black Panel that outputs at 4K with Thunderbolt 4 connectivity. By contrast, the HP 740pm spans 39.7-inches with what HP describes as a 5K2K resolution.
Specifically, the HP 740pm operates at 5,120 x 2,160 pixels, a resolution that is more commonly known as WUHD. Moreover, the monitor has a 2500R curvature, which makes it considerably less curved than 800R or 1500R monitors like the ViewSonic VX4518. Additionally, HP quotes a 1,000:1 contrast ratio with 300 nits peak brightness and 5 ms GtG response times, which are all fairly common for an IPS monitor, as is 98% DCI-P3 colour space coverage.
Given that HP does not mention a refresh rate anywhere, we suspect that the HP 740pm tops out at 60 Hz like the HP 732pk. Meanwhile, the company has included a pop-up 4K webcam that is complemented by a pair of noise-cancelling microphones and 5 W stereo speakers. The HP 740pm finds itself with the following ports, too:
- 1x DisplayPort 1.4
- 1x HDMI 2.0
- 1x Gigabit Ethernet (RJ45)
- 1x Kensington lock slot
- 2x Thunderbolt 3
- 4x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
For some reason, HP has not included a 3.5 mm jack. Also, it is worth noting that the HP 740pm delivers up to 165 W through its Thunderbolt 3 ports, with 100 W through one connection and 65 W through the other. Currently, HP charges $1,499 for the HP 740pm in the US; the company has not confirmed pricing for other regions yet.
