One of LG's new 45-inch gaming monitors has now touched down in Europe and the UK on its way to a full global release. The monitor in question is the UltraGear OLED 45GX950A and not the more advanced UltraGear OLED 45GX990A. Despite presenting the pair simultaneously in December, it has offered limited insights into the latter's whereabouts since.
By contrast, LG started selling the UltraGear OLED 45GX950A in Japan almost two months ago. Shortly afterwards, the company brought the monitor to Canada before releasing it in the US (curr. $1,999.99 on Amazon). Now, the UltraGear OLED 45GX950A has reached the UK for £1,799.98, including a 10% launch discount. By contrast, LG charges €1,899 or €2,000 in the Eurozone depending on in which country you purchase it.
For reference, the UltraGear OLED 45GX950A is an early example of LG Display's new 44.5-inch and 800R curved WOLED panel. While earlier panels outputted at 1440p, LG's new panel jumps to 5,120 x 2,160 pixels for a resolution that is commonly described as '5K2K'. As usual for WOLED panels, the UltraGear OLED 45GX950A also delivers 0.03 ms GtG response times, which LG has complemented with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-Sync technologies.
The switch from 1440p to 5K2K coincides with a refresh rate reduction of over 30% from 240 Hz to 165 Hz. To combat this, LG has included its Dual-Mode technology that doubles the panel's refresh rate to 330 Hz by cutting its resolution to 1080p. Currently, LG hopes to begin shipping the UltraGear OLED 45GX950A later this month across Europe and the UK. Please see the company's website for more technical details.
