For a company that flew under the radar just a few years ago, Lumicore has been climbing steadily through the ranks in the microdisplay space. Based in China, it's one of the few brands doing everything in-house, from display driver ICs to micro-OLED panel manufacturing. In 2024, it launched a compact 0.71-inch FHD OLED panel that quietly ended up in some XR headset prototypes. Now, it's back with a sharper, more efficient version.
The new LMC071FHDC-A model takes the original and trims its power draw by 50%, without compromising on brightness or clarity. The display still outputs a nominal 3000 nits, with an ANSI contrast ratio of 650:1 at full brightness and over 92% uniformity. As per reports, color performance has also been bumped up, with more accuracy in grayscale rendering, which is an important touch for headsets and AR glasses.
Beyond the panel tech itself, Lumicore has packed in some smart processing: MIPI interface support, pixel driving circuits, scanning direction switching, and built-in image enhancement. All of it is tailored toward compact, high-resolution near-eye systems.
This model has officially entered mass production for 2025, which likely means it’s already being tested or integrated by a few headset makers. Lumicore hasn’t named any partners, but based on past partnerships, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this pop up in upcoming AR developer kits or military-use optics.
There’s no consumer product to point at yet, but if you're tracking where XR hardware might be headed next, this little display is worth keeping an eye on.
