MSI has offered up another budget gaming monitor built around recent Samsung Display QD-OLED technology. To recap, the company released the MAG 271QP X24 last week for $679.99 in the US. Prior to that, it introduced the MAG 273QP X24 with the same underlying panel technology from last year's MAG 271QPX QD-OLED E2.
This time, it has filled in the gap between the MAG 271QP X24 and MAG 273QP X24 with the MAG 272UP X24. According to various sources, the latter will go on sale next week in China for CNY 5,499 (~$752). Given the similarities that exist between the MAG 271QP X24 and MAG 273QP X24, one may reasonably expect the MAG 272UP X24 to follow suit.
However, MSI's new gaming monitor combines a 4K (3,840 x 2,160) native resolution with a 240 Hz refresh rate. As a result, the MAG 272UP X24 is effectively a cheaper alternative to the MPG 272URX (curr. $1,099.99 on Amazon). However, the former misses out on DisplayPort 2.1 connectivity that MSI affords the latter.
Instead, the MAG 272UP X24 complements its HDMI 2.1 ports with a DisplayPort 1.4a port that must use Display Stream Compression (DSC) to reach 4K and 240 Hz simultaneously. In other words, the MAG 272UP X24 is MSI's alternative to the ROG Strix XG27UCDMG, which Asus started selling globally earlier this month. Unfortunately, there is no word yet on international availability for the MAG 272UP X24.
