Bigme is not an unknown brand name in the segment of e-readers and e-ink displays, and now the manufacturer has announced another addition to its product lineup. According to IT Home, the new device is not a standalone system, but rather an external monitor that can be hooked up to a laptop in order to boost productivity. This setup might be more suitable for hotel rooms or conferences and not mobile use on the go.
Either way, the new 13.3-inch Bigme monitor is the company’s first external screen that can display colors. The pixel density for color content is 150 PPI, which would indicate a resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels at an aspect ratio of 4:3. The refresh rate of 30Hz might sound slow compared to modern OLED or LCD monitors, but for a color e-ink panel it's rather smooth. Furthermore, e-ink monitors are considerably more eye-friendly, especially when reading texts for longer periods of time.
Last but not least, the upcoming monitor supports touch inputs and is compatible with both macOS and Windows. Bigme has not provided a price or release date thus far, but we don’t expect the new color e-ink display to be cheap.
I have been active as a journalist for over 10 years, most of it in the field of technology. I worked for Tom’s Hardware and ComputerBase, among others, and have been working for Notebookcheck since 2017. My current focus is particularly on mini PCs and single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi – so in other words, compact systems with a lot of potential. In addition, I have a soft spot for all kinds of wearables, especially smartwatches. My main profession is as a laboratory engineer, which is why neither scientific contexts nor the interpretation of complex measurements are foreign to me.

My fascination for technology goes back a long way to the Pentium II era. Modding, overclocking and treasuring computer hardware has since become an integral part of my life. As a student, I further developed a keen interest in mobile technologies that can make the stressful college life so much easier. After I fell in love with the creation of digital content while working in a marketing position, I now scour the web to bring you the most exciting topics in the world of tech. Outside the office, I’m particularly passionate about motorsports and mountain biking.
