E-ink picture frame with 2-year battery life: Reflection Frame displays photos via 'Tap to Print'
Creative Design Worx has developed a digital picture frame that is equipped with a 13.3-inch e-ink Spectra 6 panel with a resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels. The panel is capable of displaying colors and sports a contrast ratio of 30:1. A significant advantage of the e-ink technology is that power is only consumed when the displayed content changes, which eliminates the need for a power cord.
With a single battery charge, the screen can be refreshed approximately 3000 times, which should be sufficient for two years of usage according to the manufacturer. Meanwhile, the reflective surface without integrated lights ensures that the Reflection Frame is nearly indistinguishable from properly printed images. The broad bezels can be customized with magnetic mats in a variety of colors.
In order to change the displayed image, simply select a new photo in the corresponding app and tap the frame with your smartphone. The connection is established via NFC, so complex Wi-Fi or Bluetooth setups are not needed. For those who don't want to display their own photos, the app also provides access to thousands of artworks that can be used for free and without a subscription. The digital picture frame measures 15.7 by 11.5 inches.
Price and availability
The Reflection Frame is currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter. The digital photo frame can be pre-ordered as an "Early Bird Special" for $249 excluding shipping. Deliveries are expected to start in April 2025.
