Hannspree Hybri: Transflective monitor with paper-like surface is eye-friendly and power-efficient
The Hannspree Hybri is one of the very few transflective LCD monitors on the market. Transflective displays combine the advantages of reflective displays (such as e-ink) and backlit transmissive screens by allowing users to switch between modes with a button press.
During the day, the Hybri can reflect ambient light to provide an eye-friendly viewing experience with great readability, even in direct sunlight – making it perfect for offices with large windows when the spaces aren’t darkened. In the evening, the backlight can be turned on to allow the Hybri to function like a conventional display. The monitor is designed to be particularly easy on the eyes as it doesn’t exhibit any glare and flickering.
Boasting a refresh rate of 75 Hz and a response time of 5 ms, the HANNspree Hybri promises to smooth playback of videos and animations, unlike e-ink panels. With the backlight disabled, the monitor’s power usage is about 80% lower than that of conventional displays. The monitor measures 23.8 inches diagonally, has a 1080p resolution, and is equipped with an 8-bit TN panel capable of reproducing 16.7 million colours. The backlight offers a peak brightness of 50 nits. Though this may sound low, the backlight doesn’t have to compete with ambient light.
