The new Dasung Paperlike 103 features a 10.3-inch 4:3 e-ink panel with a resolution of 1,874 x 1,404. Although the display can only render greyscale images, its reflective surface makes it readable even in direct sunlight, whilst an integrated front light enables it to be used in dim spaces.
The colour temperature is adjustable to reduce blue light exposure at night. The Paperlike 103’s standout feature is certainly its 60 Hz refresh rate – the company’s previous e-ink monitors could only achieve between 30 and 41 Hz. The new panel is designed to keep pace with slower IPS panels in terms of refresh rate, allowing even videos to be rendered smoothly. There are buttons on the monitor's left side for controlling essential functions, such as the brightness of the front light.
The Paperlike 103 could make for an ideal portable companion because it sports a built-in folding kickstand that lets users conveniently prop up the monitor, plus e-ink panels are typically quite power-efficient. Ultimately, we’ll need to await the first in-depth reviews to find out the display's actual power requirement. The 60 Hz refresh rate would likely result in higher energy usage compared to slower e-ink displays.
