Samsung has unveiled the 13.3-inch EM13DX color e-paper display for retail applications to replace printed signage with a reusable alternative. The passive display leverages Samsung’s advanced color imaging algorithm to show paper-like images under natural lighting. The unit does not have a backlight or internal lighting.
The EM13DX has a screen with a resolution of 1,200 x 1,600 pixels mounted in a frame measuring 17.9 mm (0.70 in.) thick and weighing 0.9 kg (1.98 lbs.). Inside, a 4,600 mAh battery powers the unit when the display is changing the displayed image; otherwise, the unit consumes zero watts when passively displaying a static image.
The Samsung E-Paper app for Android and Apple smartphones is used to create, then update the image shown on the EM13DX. Alternatively, networked displays can be updated using the cloud-based Samsung VXT app, easing mass updates across multiple stores for retail signage applications.
Pricing and availability have not been publicly announced, but interested businesses can contact their Samsung representatives for quotes.
